Storyline

A rebellious teenage drug user, Paul is startled by an apparition of an African Christ, who is visible to him only. At the same time, Paul's mother Nora has nightmares about Paul being murdered by his abusive father, Brian, while in real life, Brian is making death threats to her new lover. Encouraged by Christ to become more spiritual, Paul struggles to convince his family and friends that he isn't crazy, and find out why Christ has appeared to him. A Good Indie Offering
10 January 2001 | by (Sunland, CA) – See all my reviews

"The Offering" pulled me in with a short plot description, about a white teen drug abuser who is confronted with visions of a black Christ. Thankfully well written and well acted, this film, while no religious epic, will inspire thought and awe from the somewhat weak beginning to the tense conclusion. It takes itself seriously, and works where it just as easily could have failed. The acting by the main characters is dead on, and their anger and problems don't seem staged at all. Much better than any other film I saw in theaters this year... long live indie!
