Have Yourself A Movie Little Christmas: 2016 Edition

19 December 2016 4:56 PM, PST | Trailers from Hell | See recent Trailers from Hell news »

I’m guessing that you, just like most of us, have always had seasonal favorites when it comes to movies that attempt to address and evoke the spirit of Christmas. Like most from my generation, when I was a kid I learned the pleasures of perennial anticipation of Christmastime as interpreted by TV through a series of holiday specials, like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and even musical variety hours where the likes of Bing Crosby and Andy Williams and Dean Martin et al would sit around sets elaborately designed to represent the ideal Christmas-decorated living room, drinking “wassail” (I’m sure that’s what was in those cups) and crooning classics of the season alongside a dazzling array of guests. (We knew we were moving into a new world of holiday cheer when David Bowie joined Bing Crosby for »

Jingle All the Way Turbo Man Toy Is Coming and It's Already Sold Out

19 December 2016 2:23 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

20 years ago, 20th Century Fox released the holiday comedy Jingle All the Way, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as devoted father Howard Langston, who promised to do whatever it takes to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. When he finds out that all of his local stores are sold out of this coveted action figure, he goes on a Christmas Eve quest to track down the toy, competing with hordes of parents along the way. As it turns out, you may be able to bring your own version of Turbo Man home in the near future.

A Kickstarter campaign was recently started by a Cleveland, Ohio man named J.R. DeJesus, who has taken matters into his own hands and created a real Turbo Man action figure. Just one week after the Kickstarter campaign launched, the project has reached its goal of $13,000, with backers asked to donate »

19 December 2016 6:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

It’s the Christmas season, which means you either love or hate the presence of the holiday comedy Jingle All the Way playing all over TV. The crass, commercial comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad desperately trying to get their hands on the popular fictional toy known as Turbo Man is goofy, slapsticky and just plain […]

NYC Weekend Watch: Maggie Cheung, ‘Leviathan,’ Busby Berkeley, Dennis Hopper & More

8 December 2016 8:33 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

The great Maggie Cheung is celebrated in a 20-film retrospective, with two Wong Kar–wai features screening this Friday and Saturday and the Police Story trilogy showing on Sunday.

Newswire: Game Of Thrones director to make a Sinbad movie

21 October 2016 12:23 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Emmy-award-winning TV director Miguel Sapochnik has signed on to make a Sinbad movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Unfortunately, that should not be misinterpreted as a cinematic vehicle for ’90s-era comedy genius David “Sinbad” Adkins. This will be a film adaptation of the 14th-century Middle Eastern story-cycle of Sinbad The Sailor. Which also has the potential to be pretty good, especially since Sapochnik really made a name for himself due to his work on Game Of Thrones.

The British-born filmmaker took home a Primetime Emmy last month for “Battle Of The Bastards,” one of four episodes he helmed for the HBO fantasy series on which Jingle All The Way star Sinbad has not yet worked for some reason. He’s directed episodes of a number of highly regarded shows, including House, Masters Of Sex, and True Detective, as well as the 2010 feature film Repo Men. The big-budget, effects-heavy adventure ...

Movie Review – Kindergarten Cop 2 (2016)

23 May 2016 12:10 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Kindergarten Cop 2, 2016.

Directed by Don Michael Paul.

Starring Dolph Lundgren, Fiona Vroom, Aleks Paunovic, Andre Tricoteux, Bill Bellamy and Sarah Strange.

Synopsis:

Assigned to recover sensitive stolen data, a gruff FBI agent goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher, but the school’s liberal, politically correct environment is more than he bargained for.

“It’s not a tumour!” Right, now that’s out the way, that brings us nicely to the somewhat unexpected sequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1990 cult favourite, Kindergarten Cop. The original didn’t particularly pick up rave reviews on its release but it had a good box office return and has endeared itself upon audiences more and more over the years. It’s an Ahnuld film I particularly enjoy, even if it’s never quite sure whether it’s an Arnold film or a family friendly jape. Whatever it is, it’s good fun.

So 2016 has rolled around. »

Christopher Walken turns Kevin Spacey into a cat in new trailer for Nine Lives

15 April 2016 9:28 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

If you ever thought about wanting to switch lives with your cat, maybe think again.

Nine Lives stars Kevin Spacey as a wealthy businessman, but a bad father. After missing his daughter's birthday (again), he attempts to make it up to her by getting her a cat. What he actually gets is much more than he bargained for.

Reminiscent of other comedies like Liar, Liar, and Jingle All the WayNine Lives takes this concept of the absentee father to a new level, and this film also features Christopher Walken playing with the life of a negligent parents, just as he did for Adam Sandler in Click. Now Spacey must try to indicate to his family that he is inside of their new pet. We're getting flashbacks of Being John Malkovich.

Check out the new trailer for Nine Lives below, and see the film in theatres on August 5th. »
