Just going through the motions?
5 April 1999 | by (Lucas Buck, NC) – See all my reviews

Another in the Australian serial featuring the striking Rebecca Gibney, as Jane Halifax, forensic profiler/psychologist. Halifax tales start somewhere in the realm of Poirot, or Agatha Christie, but may have been influenced a little too much by American television's Quincy and Columbo, this one, at least, is a little on the watered down side..

My biggest bone of contention here, is lack of attention in both wardrobe and casting. Since I'm not overly familiar with the series, I am more dependent on these crafts to help me stay with the story. Unfortunately, from my view, all the characters look alike! The females, attractive, late 20's early 30's dark-headed, all the men late 30's early 40's bulky character types. Wardrobe choices do little to help distinguish one from another as a preponderance of soft beige and muted tones continued my confusion . Throughout the film I constantly struggled to keep things straight. Thankfully for me there is a rewind button.

Rarely do we get an opportunity to really appreciate good casting and wardrobing, but here we certainly get a first hand look at how discombobulating it can be when these functions inhibit your ability to understand the story.
