Stephen Chow is again teaming with Sony Pictures Classics for the North American release of his fifth feature, A Hope, which he wrote and directed.

Chow, who also stars, shot the picture last year in China. Embellished with state-of-the-art visual effects, it's a fantasy comedy about a poor laborer (Chow), his young son and their enlightening encounter with a strange new pet.

Chow's the Star Overseas Ltd. first teamed with Sony Pictures Entertainment on Kung Fu Hustle, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, won five Golden Horse Awards and grossed more than $100 million worldwide.

"I had a wonderful experience with Sony on 'Kung Fu Hustle, ' and I look forward to an equally rewarding collaboration on this latest project," Chow said.

Gareth Wigan, vice chairman of Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Group, said he is delighted to be reuniting with Chow, "whose original vision and unique comic humor will continue to surprise and delight audiences."

Chow made his directorial debut in 1996 on Sik San. He went on to direct, write and star in Shaolin Soccer in 2001, which also broke Hong Kong boxoffice records and won seven Hong Kong Film Awards. »
