Val Kilmer Confirms Cancer Rumors, Says He’s in ‘Healing’ Stages

30 April 2017 4:53 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Val Kilmer finally confirmed numerous reports that he was battling cancer during a recent Ama on Reddit. The actor had never acknowledged the rumors as legitimate, but now confirms that he has had a “healing of cancer.”

Michael Douglas first revealed Kilmer’s oral cancer diagnosis on Halloween last year when speaking to Jonathan Ross about the pair’s film “The Ghost and the Darkness.” Douglas claimed his co-star had not been seen in public recently due to Kilmer “dealing with exactly what I had, and things don’t look too good for him.” (Douglas was previously diagnosed with stage 4 oral cancer in 2010, but was declared cancer-free following treatment in 2011).

Despite originally denying Douglas’ claims — as well as reports involving a possible tumor back in October of 2015 — Kilmer was forthright with a fan during his Reddit Ama on Wednesday:

After one user asked Val about Michael Douglas publicly saying Val was battling throat cancer back in October, Val confirmed his illness for the first time. "He was probably trying to help me because the press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer," he said. "But my tongue is still swollen although healing all the time. Because I don't sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather." Michael, who is also a throat cancer survivor, had previously said that his The Ghost and the Darkness costar was "dealing with exactly what I had" and that "things don't look too good for him," adding, »

Prime for April - Screengrab Roulette

4 April 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As we do, we've frozen random new to Amazon Prime titles and grabbed the first screengrab that popped up. Though they're leaning heavily on 1990s titles at the moment, their quality of offerings is far outpacing whatever B pictures Netflix has been licensing of late. Comment Party: Which will you be watching and which of the "new" streaming titles would you most want to read a write-up on this month? I'll obey your consensus command.

Okay on to the random screengrabs.

Every morning the ground is soaked with blood. The workers believe I brought this terror since it didn't begin until my arrival. Whatever I try they seem to know. All the deaths are on me.

The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)

Yes, yes, great Vilmos Zsigmond cinematography, a sound Oscar, and killer lions and but on a scale of 1-100 how kissable were Val Kilmer's lips in his prime? »

The best sound editing category is going to be tough to call at this year’s Oscars, but the race is boiling down to Hacksaw Ridge versus La La Land. While we won’t know who won the Academy’s favor until Sunday, we already know the Motion Picture Sound Editors have honored these two films — among others — at their annual Golden Reel Awards. How often does this society of sound editors predict the corresponding category at the Academy Awards? Let’s take a look and find out.

Nominated alongside Hacksaw Ridge and La La Land in the best sound editing category at this year’s Oscars are Arrival, Sully, and Deepwater Horizon.
