Mark Wahlberg Wants God to Forgive Him for ‘Boogie Nights’: ‘I’ve Made Some Poor Choices’

Mark Wahlberg Wants God to Forgive Him for ‘Boogie Nights’: ‘I’ve Made Some Poor Choices’
Mark Wahlberg has starred in critical duds like “Planet of the Apes” and “Rock Star,” and yet it’s Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights” that he’s asking God to forgive him for. The actor, who is a devout Catholic, is going viral for comments he made during an appearance at the Uic Pavilion in Chicago. Joined on stage by Cardinal Blasé Cupich, Wahlberg said “Boogie Nights” was at the top of his list of poor career choices.

“I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I’ve made some poor choices in my past,” Wahlberg said. “‘Boogie Nights’ is up there at the top of the list.”

‘Boogie Nights’ Turns 20! Looking Back on Mark Wahlberg and the Ensemble Cast’s Breakthrough Performances

‘Boogie Nights’ Turns 20! Looking Back on Mark Wahlberg and the Ensemble Cast’s Breakthrough Performances
Dirk Diggler has great manners.

Every character in Boogie Nights has small details like this that encapsulate everything about them. Some of these qualities, such as Diggler's obsessive politeness whenever he's pulled away from a conversation, are written on the page. Others appear to be specific choices made by actors, like the way Philip Seymour Hoffman's Scotty J. nervously holds his arm during Jack and Dirk's confrontation.

As the film turns 20, Et is reexamining the breakthrough performances in Boogie Nights and Paul Thomas Anderson's showcase of incredible character actors.

Set in the late '70s, Boogie Nights chronicles 17-year-old busboy Eddie Adams’ (Mark Wahlberg) journey as he’s taken under the wing of pornography auteur Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) and into a world where he could finally become the bright shining star he always felt destined to be. Adams quickly transforms into the neon sign dynamite that is Dirk Diggler and takes the industry by storm

Why Mark Wahlberg Almost Said No to Boogie Nights

Why Mark Wahlberg Almost Said No to Boogie Nights
This fall, the movie that put both star Mark Wahlberg and director Paul Thomas Anderson on the map turns 20, the modern classic Boogie Nights. At the time of the movie's release, Mark Wahlberg was best known as Marky Mark, a pop singer and Calvin Klein underwear pitchman, but he had started branching out into acting in the early 1990s with roles in Renaissance Man, The Basketball Diaries and Fear, before his breakout role in 1997's Boogie Nights. According to the actor, he almost didn't take the role. In fact, at first, he even refused to read the script for one important reason.

ABC News caught up with Mark Wahlberg, who said when he was first approached with the role of Dirk Diggler, he wouldn't read the script because it was about the adult film industry. Eventually, he changed his mind, but he still wasn't sure about the story. Here's what

Final Trailer for Katherine Heigl’s Unforgettable arrives

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Zehra Phelan

Back in January, we reported on Katherine Heigl’s trip down the psychotic women road in the upcoming Unforgettable alongside Rosario Dawson and we can now share with you the final trailer for the thriller before its April 21st release.

The release of this film hasn’t exactly been shouted from the rooftops and we have a couple of ideas why. It probably isn’t very good, but mostly because there could very well be yet another backlash from hardcore feminists and women’s groups for the depiction of a woman going all fatal attraction bonkers on her ex-husband’s new lady friend. It’s a storyline which has seen Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl fake her own death in order to get her own back on her cheating husband and Ali Larter in Obsessed drugging Idris Elba in order to rape him.

However, men have had

‘Big Little Lies’: Shailene Woodley on American Repression, Violence, and Why ‘Every Parent is Afraid of Their Kid’
During the fifth episode of “Big Little Lies,” director Jean-Marc Valle unveiled an image so instantly satisfying its full weight didn’t register right away: Three women, running together in silence, wordlessly united against the pain all around them.

Jane’s therapeutic jogging scenes have become a staple of the HBO limited series, but Shailene Woodley’s character is no longer alone. Her new equally tormented best friends, Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) and Celeste (Nicole Kidman), are now running right beside her. It’s a testament to the support needed to survive in a world filled with hardship, but it’s also a conviction of silent suffering. Each woman has a secret. Each woman is afraid to confess her secret, and — as the series so prominently foreshadows — it could end up killing one of them.

Fifty Shades Darker Review

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Emily Breen

This Valentine’s weekend our favourite brooding, hard-bodied billionaire returns to the big screen with a brand new adventure. You may read our 4 star Batman review here. Unfortunately we need to speak of Fifty Shades Darker.

The last time we saw Anastasia Steele she was walking away from her abuser. Escaping with tear stains on her cheeks but a new resolve in her heart to never let that mercurial Christian Grey close enough to hurt her again. HeyUGuys had the same reaction when we read the Fifty Shades novels. Never again would we endure such pain. Yet here we are.

Sam Taylor-Johnson did an impressive job of helming Fifty Shades of Grey. Taking E L James’ preposterous and childish source material and (together with screenwriter Kelly Marcel) crafting something pleasing on the eye and inoffensive to the soul. When her Anastasia said goodbye there was a triumphant
