A MOVIE GEM., 1 September 1999

Without going into to many details of the movie, I will say it's one of those movies which was a nice surprise. I think it's one movie for Jennifer Connelly, where it shows that she's a really great actress. It's also not like a lot of her movies, where she's just the beautiful women. She's warm, lovable, and she draws you into her character. The rest of the cast is really good also, but I think this is Jennifer's movie. I watched this movie, over & over a number of times, and I have to say I love it more each time I see it! It's just about friends getting together, in a house with a special person on a boat docked, close to them. They all have issues to deal with, and this get together brings it all to a head. Just take my word, you will love this movie. For me it's the kind of movie I felt was a special gift that was given to me. Rent, or buy it. It's well worth it!

...helps one to fall asleep. I've no idea what this film is about, except that it is several whiny 20-30 somethings together... including the obligatory minority who is one of three decent actors in the piece (though you wouldn't know it watching this)... and something to do with a screenplay. The dialogue (delivered as if reading from the script) is mostly about how misery loves company, 'gosh i feel really sorry about myself', and lets make the audience feel the same unless they're already put to sleep by the soft lulling of acoustic guitar...There's a ship floating in the water, one guy tries to swim to it and he hurts his foot... oh oops that 's the end... That pretty much sums up the whole thing.

Dull, boring, pointless and badly written film about nothing.... The
film is very slow paced I kept waiting for something meaningful to
happen, but the end credits put a frustrating conclusion to my wait.
Acting was very bad by the entire cast except Jennifer Connelly who was
still a pleasure to watch. But of course one actress, no matter how
great she is, can't single handedly save a movie as dull as this.
Jennifer Connelly aside, the entire thing looked no better than a high
school project made using a cheap camera over a weekend.
I never advice against watching a movie, and this film is no exception.
Just make sure you watch it immediately after you wake up with some
coffee in hand, otherwise you'd be sleeping less than half way through!

talky, pretentious, with a dramatic core on one person, 6 September 2000

An isolated group of people talk fest movie, with quite wealthy and
relatively young people near New York City. The dramatic focus is mainly on
the hostess, who has a tragic story behind her fragile psyche, and one of
the guests, who is professionally failing so badly that he is now focusing
on 'truth,' in the most hurtful way, to all except the hostess. A Steven
Spielberg-like presence, called Sprechman, nearly dominates the story
without ever appearing. More or less worth watching, as a tearfultime
filler, but not worth keeping.
two stars: only for filling time

I saw this film on the Sundance channel. The film is quite special. It is very simple film, but yet it is not. It only introduces 8 characters-Brad, Kiki, Arabella, Ellie, Ryland, Jordan, Frick, and Trey. The film was one of the most beautiful and moving pieces I had seen in a long time, with a heart felt soundtrack and moving cinematography, and ofcourse wonderful acting all around. Ignore bad comments on this film, and see it for what it is- a great movie, Bravo John Huddles. And Thanks.

I saw the movie... Oh my God... parts of it, because half of the time I
was
fighting against sleeping...
The only thing that I take out of that crap is the great performer
Jennifer
Connelly....
I would like to ask her agent why he (or her) scheduled a film like FAR
HARBOR ....
It`s a another pill like MELATONINE.....
Thank you.

So mannered and "actor-y" you want to scream, this film is notable only for the participation of the always-wonderful Dan Futterman. This is the nadir of Jennifer Connelly's self-conscious, "aren't-I-a-fine-actress?" film turns (at least she's not relying on her breasts as usual). Not worth the time.
