raw, gritty, truthful

This short film has stellar performances from Jens Okking and Mads Mikkelsen. This is the type of film that strikes you with its simplicity. The film enters you in a trance into this Danish story about an aging prisoner that never got to see his son grow up, and soon he discovers the new inmate is that son, and it really rings real life. The relationships between characters are really well portrayed. In subtext the film seems to explore characters that are citizens of a society that is at the same time disaffected and affected altogether, similar to Mike Leigh's British film 'Meantime'. It really is a comment on life, with camera work and lighting of corrupt beauty. These type of movies really rank high for me in the line of independent movies. Blomsterfangen really stays with you. Good cast, good soundtrack, with sleepy as well as comic moments.
