A place in the sun.

Is the hero a masochist or someone who needs to draw the others ' attention to him?The latter probably, but the former cannot be completely ruled out.

Well played by Bruno Putzulu,de la comédie française, the hero, who has neither friends nor fiancée is getting bored in the provinces. He decides to chance his luck in Paris, but nothing works:he tries to become a comedian, then to join the légion étrangère,but he fails twice and out of despair,he admits to have slain a taxi driver, something he has never done ,of course. He's thrown into jail where he seems to enjoy life .His mother(played by Elisabeth Depardieu,Gérard's ex-wife) is completely distraught and cannot understand a situation that eludes her.

This is an offbeat drama,Putzulu's character defies psychology and the people who try to understand his behavior : the shrink who examines him,the judge who tries to save him,and his cell mate who will brutally assault him when he discovers the truth. One could think that the moral of the story would be that the family 's got to stand all together, but even that is refuted by the last pictures. When we leave the hero,we do not know at all what he will do .This is a true story, and although it's quite credible, it destroys all your certitudes.
