Anne Robinson's Weakest Video Game Links

20 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Anne Robinson's TV quiz The Weakest Link has taken such a stronghold on America that a video game version of the hit show is now set to be released. The Weakest Link, popular for redhead Robinson's no-nonsense presenting style, will be developed into a PC and console game by California-based Activision in a deal with BBC Worldwide. The game, set to feature the authoritative face and dominant tones of the former consumer program Watchdog presenter, is scheduled for a British release on PC, Sony Playstation 2 and original Playstation formats in October, while America will have to wait until Christmas for the privilege. Ron Doornink, president of Activision, says, "We are very excited to team up with BBC Worldwide to develop one of its top brands into interactive games. We will recreate the thrill of being a contestant on The Weakest Link by allowing players to face off against other opponents and experience the biting wit of Anne Robinson from the comfort of their own living room." Weakest Link mania has become so strong in America that colossal billboards now adorn buildings, displaying near-demonic illustrations of brash TV personality Robinson. And NBC, which debuted the show in the United States on Monday to rave reviews and record audiences, even went as far as to paint the pavements of Hollywood with Robinson's intimidating line, "You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye." Bespectacled Robinson, described by critics as a cross between "a dominatrix and a librarian, " attracted 14.7 million viewers - the best numbers in that time slot for NBC since the May 1998 season finale of Brooke Shields's "Suddenly Susan" show. »
