I LOVED this show when I was a kid. I just rediscovered it on Youtube, and it is great. The plots are cheesy, the acting is wooden, the theme song is annoyingly catchy, and the effects are bad, but that's what kids shows are all about.

It's basically Star Trek: Voyager for kids. And that's amazing. The best character was Catalina, who had an invisible friend who changed places with her in the second season. Jewel Staite is now on Stargate Atlantis as Dr. Keller, and I always knew she looked familiar. I was so excited to discover that she was Catalina!

I only wish it had come to some sort of conclusion instead of being cancelled. Opportunity, anyone? Someone should come along and finish this show, or maybe remake it with another set of actors.

Even after so many years i miss this

Yeah it's 2021 and i still miss the rest of the show. Back in the day i wished to be like them. It was so great and really watchful and really really enjoyed it. Even though i have watched it 3 to 4 times i still enjoy watching it today.... No matter how many times I watch it the fond memories of my childhood comes back to me....

I have such fond memories of this show. I vividly recall rushing to the TV Saturday nights just to watch this show. It was original, funny, cute, and related well to its target audience. I was crushed when it stopped airing on Nick, and still think about it to this day (whenever I see the girl who played the rainbow haired character, Staite or something similar I believe). I really wish the show would have continued, that someone would have at least tried to tie up some of the loose ends. They could have done so much more with this show in my youth, and I feel sorry for the many people who will never get to see it for what it was. This was far to excellent a show to just slip away and disappear into the corners of young people's memories....

worth watching, better than what's on now!

The feel of how this show was filmed reminds me of "the tomorrow people". Group of young cadets let curiosity get the better of them and sneak aboard a strange alien space cruiser. Suddenly, they find themselves in unknown space, trying to get home while battling a race called the "spung". Like most good shows however, it died too soon because most viewers prefer "stupid-vision"(aka "reality shows").

I at least would very much like to see this series released on DVD, or for some other station(COUGH~independent~COUGH)to broacast this show on the air again. Barring that, if I could gain permission to do so - I would start a LPTV and broadcast it myself! Shows like this should NOT be allowed to drift into obscurity!

A fun, albeit derivative sci-fi show for kids

As a young sci-fi nerd, growing up in the mid-90s, I loved Space Cases. The special effects impressed me at the time, and the various story arcs kept me coming back for more (notably the Suzie/Catalina story). However, now that I have context for these kinds of shows, Space Cases seems, well, less than stellar. It's plagued by wooden acting (Davenport's accent is hilariously bad), clumsy dialogue, and some downright annoying characters (honestly, does Thelma have *any* redeeming qualities?). Additionally, the story seems an amalgam of several sci-fi shows from throughout the years (Star Trek: Voyager, Babylon 5, Lost in Space, etc...). Though, what the show lacks, it makes up for with charm. Never before or since Space Cases has there been such a fun sci-fi show with a target audience for ages 7-12. And, since Nickelodeon would rather focus on ugly, sharp-edged, computer-drawn pseudo-anime, it doesn't look like there will be another Space Cases.

The people at Nickelodeon, must have not known what they were doing when they removed this show from their lineup, had they no idea how many people actually found this show interesting. This was my favorite show. I remember watching SNICK at 8 PM every single Saturday. And I miss this show...although, corny at times, it never failed to delight me nor my sisters. And I must congratulate on the writers of the scripts, that kept me glued to the TV. I normally dislike Sci Fi, but this is a huge exception. I wish they would at least put on reruns. Well, hopefully, they will, since this show, and others like it, are highly missed, being that these new shows, aren't that great.

Still my favorite TV show.

This sci-fi epic caught my attention from the first episode, and has never left my memory since. The mix of comedy, drama and science was the perfect combination for a great show! Despite the fact it aired on Nickelodeon -known as a kids network - Space Cases has many little references, jokes and themes throughout that fly right over the heads of its target audience. The distinct personalities of each cadet make them unique...I was also one disappointed by the loss of Catalina at the end of the first season. (With that Saturnian personality and powers, she's the best of the five IMO.) The episodes went downhill incredibly from Suzee's appearance onward. Thanks to the internet I have found pictures and sounds to remind me of this great work, but sadly I haven't seen an actual episode in five years. Sure, I could find more ''flaws'' now than I could back then at age 13, but there is no chance I would like it any less; if this is your type of show you cannot grow out of it. If you can get a hold of some Space Cases episodes, I completely recommend it to you and am sorry I can't see it anymore. Zabagabe, zabagabe!!

A Beautiful Idea

I haven't seen this show for many years, but I remember it fondly due to it's whimsical blend of humor, adventure, and sci-fi fantasy. Astronomy is the science of creation, and this show was a beautiful metaphor for the purity and timeless enchantment the stars hold for all humanity. Set in the 23rd century, 5 students get lost in the boon docks of the Milky way galaxy after sneaking aboard an alien vessel and getting sucked into a wormhole, and come of age during their seven year odyssey as they explore and enrich the space they voyage through. I as a viewer found it poetic and marvelous to trek along with them on their quest, and hope one day the show will be resurrected in some form.

Quite good, all things considered

"Space Cases" was obviously aimed at a younger audience than the Star Trek generation (both 1 and 2), and I think it hit the mark very well. Not only did it let younger actors in on the space race, the writing and character development was much better than some of the so-called adult Sci-Fi TV of the same period. It was written somewhat tongue in cheek, but always involved a morality lesson of some sort that I suppose an older viewer might see as banal. But let's face it; just about all TV (and movie) Sci-Fi has done the same, usually to a greater than necessary degree. I was sorry that the series was canceled, as I thought the second season showed definite improvement over the first. There were also unresolved issues that I wanted to see wrapped up. I became quite fond of the characters, and thought they interacted well and were quite believable. I would like to see both seasons released on DVD to add to my collection.

I think Bill Mumy should be proud of his writing on "Space Cases".

I can't believe I still miss this show :-)

Wow, this is amazing. I adored the show from day one - wasn't it part of "Snick"? - and eagerly tuned in until they killed off Catalina, my favorite character . . . from then on I lost interest. Bearing in mind that I lacked a good deal of perspective four years ago, I still remember a very good show, and I'd love to see reruns now to know if I was right.

A cult classic...

Despite bad a few bad choices by the higher-ups at Nickelodeon, the show managed to do well the during couple years it aired, and still maintained a rather large fan following in the years after its cancellation.

Space Cases had diverse characters and an extensive background story. The show itself was co-written by a comic book writer, and it shows in the direction and set designs. If you could ignore the special effects and make up designs that occasionally borderlined into downright cheesiness (Catalina's rainbow wig being the most memorable) it had a cute, campy flavor to it that made it very enjoyable. It's a shame it was canceled so early on, there was a lot of questions left unanswered and development we never got to see.

Overall, I would group "Space Cases" in with other Nick cult-hits of the 1990s like "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" and "Are You Afraid Of the Dark?". You've got pop-culture in the Petes, the horror following for "Are You Afraid..." and we sci-fi geeks got this.

Miss this show

This show was one of my favorites from when I was a kid. I haven't thought of it for a long time, but I stumbled across an online writer who does the most amazing fan fiction about the characters, and so I've recently been seized by renewed interest in the show. I felt it had so much potential, and I think the time is ripe for it to make a comeback, if not on television, then in novels, or comic books, or something! The saga was left so unfinished, the cadets never even got close to getting home, Cat was still trapped in Yensid, there was so much of the story left to tell! Peter David, if you read this, please consider writing some Space Cases novels, or allow other writers to take up the cause!

I remember this show. I watched it when I was little and actually really enjoyed it. I just watched a terrible movie (on purpose) and was discussing how space actually works when I felt I absolutely needed to look up the name of this show I'd watched so many years ago. Space Cases actually came up first on my search and here I am. Wow. To be honest I don't remember much about it, except I believe that the ship was different in each room for each person. I think I started somewhere in the middle of the series and only managed to watch a couple of episodes. Still it was good and I remember being unhappy when the show as taken off the air.

Still missing after all these years

Okay, so I was never the maturest of people, however, I believe that this show had potention. If it had belonged to another network (preferably Sci-Fi), a lot more could have been done with it. Nickelodeon censored this, changed that, and even managed to wreck the second season. Four words: "All You Can Eaty". Some people do think this episode was "cheesy", however, if you have to be knocked out by the squeezing of your nose because someone said you weren't allowed to use a weapon, you'd look pretty stupid. If someone told you your teacher couldn't kiss a man just because they were adults, hey-- guess what! You'd still look pretty stupid. If Peter David is still out there someone, I'd say find a new network, give the show a not so "Cheesy" makeover, and try again. There is a lot of unresolved things in this show. Nickelodeon just cut it off.

Man, what a great show this was!! I was totally obsessed with it! It never should have been taken off the air. The cast was great, and it was such a good idea for a show!!! The show wasn't as good after Catalina left, i never really did like Suzie but it was still a great show! The episode where Catalina left was one of my favorites though. This is an awesome show that should at least be seen on reruns!

I love this show and I wish I was on that show. It had Walter Jones( Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) in it.

It was sad that the show was canceled.

I wish they put a show called "Space Cases: The Next Generation", I loved it.

i like sci-fi shows and i loved this show i was 9 when i saw it and nick shouldnt have canceled it. it was like star trek for kids.i loved the episode where the adults turn in to the lizard people nick should have a marathon of space cases and all of their old shows they canceled

I vaguely remember watching this show when I was 6 or 7 and it was pretty entertaining. I didn't really notice the shows passing as I had just switched to Star Trek. All I remember were the last 8 notes and 8 seconds of video of the theme. Dan Tamberelli hitting himself with something. Something about brainwashing, thelma's brain was a marble, and the adult woman saying she had glow-in-the-dark bread. All and all not the best memories, but still quaint ones. I only realized because i was having a discussion about series that pass out of people's memories and only resurface with work.

This show started coming on when I was nine years old. I can vividly remember watching the show, loving the characters, and occasionally getting mad when I missed an episode because my family hung around somewhere "too long" and the show was off before I got home. My brother and I even had a secret club that centered around the show. The only other member was one one of our friends. This was an awesome show that deserves a DVD at least, if not a chance to re-air (obviously not new episodes) on a cable channel, maybe Noggin. And to the writers: well done. You created characters that still stick in my memory and environments that sparked my imagination. Here's to hoping we fans get to see it again one day!

Well, I must say that this show is always going to have a place in my memories. Recently, I saw Jewel Staite in the movie Serenity. I couldn't shake the feeling that I had seen her before so I started looking around. After minimal poking I found it out, Space Cases. Just the name brought back memories of me and my friends sitting around watching the show and talking about it all week. Back then, I didn't realize why it was taken off the air and I understand even less now, but I have to say it would make me smile to see it on again. Even if it just came on in re-runs (though I'd like to see new episodes) I would still watch.

Old Nickelodeon Shows Were the Best

I loved this show - I would always watch it. The premise of the show was basically a bunch of kids and their teachers go on an abandoned spaceship and meet this crazy robot lady. They have tons of adventures in space. The very last episode was kinda stupid though because all they did was make-out with each other and nothing was really solved. I watched Nickelodeon a few times after Space Cases was cancelled and it wasn't as good as it used to be - the shows are pretty stupid. Shows like "Space Cases," "Are you Afraid of the Dark?" and the old episodes of "All That" were the best shows. Every Saturday night I would watch those shows - pretty pathetic huh? Space Cases was a funny adventurey show and it should come back in re-runs because I think kids today will enjoy it.

Canceling this show made me hate Nickelodeon

When Nickelodeon Canceled this show, I cut them off. I canceled My subscription to thor Magazne, and threw away all My Nickelodeon Merchandise. This show Was Funny, Clever, and Had Good actors. It Was one of the Few Nickelodeon Shows A teenager could enjoy, and it had Great Stories, Like the one where Catalina was caught on the Exploding Ship and everyone mourned her Death until they found out she was pulled into another Demention. And that's another thing. They Left Everything Unresolved. Nickelodeon used to Be My favorite Network, But then Nickelodeon Canceled This show, and I haven't turned to their Channel since.

It's really sad as to why Nickelodeon cancelled this excellent show. It was Nick's only good one. I loved every episode and wrote a bajillion fan letters to the show. Bova (Rahi Azizi) was my very first movie star crush...I just wish I could find out more about him. Everyone else is great as well. I've seen every episode and they all rock. Space Cases forever!

Space Cases was an ok show. My sister and I used to watch it in Arizona when we had absolutley nothing to do, which was most of the time. I was just a little kid at the time I was only 10 or 9 so I didn't really know about the flaws the show had etc. In 1996 i moved to Las Vegas and I watched the shows and then when they got cancelled I never really watched the re-runs. Well the point I am trying to make is that the show "Falls Short" It only lasted a year and I am not surprised. One thing is the actors. The actors are very dismal and they either overact their parts or they don't do a good enough job. Number two was the plots. The plots of this show were just ripped from shows like Star Trek. I could remember when i was in the car with my family i found myself singing the song. It was a cool show then and now it seems bad. Catalina was probably the worst actress along with Thelma. Catalina was removed thankfully during a space accident in one episode. I think her name was Jewel Staite, you may have seen her in Flash Forward. She is a very bad actress. Not to mention all the other characters seem to push the plot along and they do a bad job at it. This show was pretty cool when i was 10. But now at 14 and I look back it wasn't that great. One of the weaker shows on Nickelodeon.
