The official Star Wars Instagram has released some new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars: The Force Awakens box office estimates suggest a $615 million global opening weekend

27 August 2015 9:57 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We all know Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be big – the only question is, ‘how big’?

Well, according to predictions from Deadline, the first chapter of Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy could pull in a $615 million worldwide opening weekend, which would shatter the previous record set earlier this year by Jurassic World on $524.4 million.

See Also: Star Wars: The Force Awakens behind-the-scenes images and Bb-8 Empire cover

Analysts are suggesting a $300 million domestic opening (again, another Jurassic World record) plus a further $315 million internationally, which would almost certainly propel the J.J. Abrams-directed film to the fastest $1 billion of all time, held by – yep, you guessed it – Jurassic World, which achieved the feat in just 13 days.

The Force Awakens is set to dominate multiplexes in December and early January, playing on around 50% of screens, as well as having its run of IMAX theaters exclusively for a month. »

EastEnders actor Malachi Kirby will be leading A+E's eight-episode reboot of Roots.

Kirby - who played Wayne Ladlow on the BBC soap in January 2014 - has been cast as Kunta Kinte, an African who is sold into slavery in America, reports Deadline.

The miniseries, which will also air on Lifetime and the History Channel, is based on Alex Haley's groundbreaking novel, nearly 40 years after it was first adapted for television back in 1977.

Laurence Fishburne previously joined the cast of the reboot, portraying author Haley.

The original Roots made history with its 37 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and nine wins overall back in the 1970s.

Before EastEnders, Kirby had guest spots on The Bill, Silent Witness and Doctors. »

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will dominate IMAX screens for an entire month

26 August 2015 10:34 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you’re planning on catching Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX, it seems you’ll have an entire month to do so, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that IMAX has reserved all of its North American screens and the majority of screens around the rest of the world exclusively for the first instalment of Disney’s Sequel Trilogy.

The deal will mark the first time that IMAX has devoted all of its screens to a single film since Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, and will mean that the likes of In the Heart of the Sea and The Revenant will miss out on IMAX screenings.

J.J. Abrams talks Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke and the First Order from Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Yesterday Empire Magazine unleashed a brand new image of Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, the new villain from December’s hugely anticipated blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now we have some comments from director J.J. Abrams, who briefly details Kylo Ren’s allegiance to Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) and the inspiration for the First Order.

“Kylo Ren is not a Sith,” states Abrams. “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force. [The First Order] all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? »
