Storyline

It is 1930s Pittsburgh, and college student Betty Roberts has won an internship at WENN, a station that specializes in radio shows. She finds that the employees of the shows are just as wacky as the characters they play on the radio. They include: Mackie Bloom, WENN's man of a thousand voices; Hilary Booth, queen of the stage who carries an over-inflated ego; Mr. Foley, WENNs sound effects man who never talks; Tom Eldridge, who is as clueless as a gnat; and Jeffery Singer, who is in a marriage of convenience with Hillary. Each week, we watch how the station members struggle to keep the station going. Written by Pat McCurry <ccgrad97@aol.com>

Quotes

Betty Roberts: Creatively, what aspect of radio drama most interests you?
Scott Sherwood: It doesn't. Never had much time for radio. Stops me from thinking out loud. Bought a second-hand schooner that had one, but I never listened until I ran up on a reef in Samoa and had to wait almost a week for help. Ever try to eat a barnacle?
Betty Roberts: No.
Scott Sherwood: Don't.
Betty Roberts: I promise not to.

Turner Classic Movies replaced AMC in my house
13 February 2001 | by (North Carolina) – See all my reviews

Excellent series, wonderfully acted. It contains some of the wittiest dialogue I have ever heard in a product made directly for television. I was thrilled when AMC created such a surprising gem, and was equally appalled when they cancelled it prematurely. Turner Classic Movies replaced AMC in my house after that fiasco.
