From Queen of Hip-Hop Soul to Acclaimed Actresses: How Mary J. Blige Conquered Hollywood
It’s no secret that Mary J. Blige can do it all.

The Grammy Award winner, celebrated for both her singing and songwriting skills, has also been acting for years in TV and film.

But this year the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” has taken her acting career to the next level: Blige is starring in Netflix‘s potential Oscar player Mudbound — a Dee Rees film adaption of the 2008 novel — where she plays a mother-of-four dealing with racial prejudice on a Mississippi Delta farm during the Jim Crow South.

How did the 46-year-old R&B icon become a respected actress? Here

How Jamie Foxx Helped Launch Ed Sheeran’s Career

Jamie Foxx has done a lot in the TV and film industry. He has had his own hit television show “The Jamie Foxx Show,” starred in Hollywood blockbuster movies like “Ray” and “Django,” and is rumored to take on the role of ex Heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in an upcoming biopic about his life and career. With the laundry list of accolades Foxx has acquired over the years, I think it’s time to add another to that list: Partly being responsible (or to blame depending on your preference) for the career of British indie pop star Ed Sheeran. Trailer Watch: Niecy Nash is a Badass Salon Owner in “Claws”

Claws

If you wish “The Sopranos” had included more women and people of color onscreen — and had doubled down on Carmela’s fierce manicures — your dream has come true. The Niecy Nash-starring TNT dramedy “Claws” has a trailer and a premiere date.

From showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois and executive produced by “Celeste and Jesse Forever” writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, “Claws” is set in South Florida and follows “the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists,” the official synopsis details.

“At the center is salon owner Desna (Nash, ‘Scream Queens’), who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother, Dean (Harold Perrineau, ‘The Best Man Holiday’). Desna’s staff includes best friend Jennifer (Jenn Lyon, ‘Justified’), a tenuously sober ex-party girl raising two children from previous relationships; Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes, ‘Jane the Virgin’), Desna’s enigmatic driver who also provides security for the salon; Polly (Carrie Preston, ‘The Good Fight’), a mild-mannered preppy who recently served time in prison for identity theft; and Virginia (Karrueche Tran, ‘The Nice Guys’), who makes no effort to hide her boredom and impatience with her job.”

We’re pleased to report that the “Claws” spot gives us a glimpse of everything we could have wanted from the series. There are pledges of sisterhood, confident struts, alligator fights, a worthy villain (“Breaking Bad’s” Dean Norris), and a lot of bad-ass nails. Plus, there’s this exchange:

“Y’all got some real idiots up in here,” a customer observes.

“Baby, it’s what we do,” Desna replies with a laugh. To which Polly adds, “Biggest export after oranges.”

Sherman Barrois previously wrote for “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “ER,” and “Criminal Minds.” She also served as executive producer on the latter two.

Jones is best known for her acting roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “Angie Tribeca.” She is also a producer of projects like the upcoming “Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On,” “Angie Tribeca,” “Hot Girls Wanted,” and “A to Z.” She co-wrote one of the new episodes of “Black Mirror,” “Nosedive,” with her “Parks” showrunner Michael Schur. Jones and McCormack are also credited as the writers of “Toy Story 4,” slated for 2019.

Claws” debuts June 11 on TNT.

Two More Actresses Join 'Spider-man: Homecoming'

  • LRM Online
You can go ahead and add two more names to the growing cast of the Sony/Marvel Studios reboot Spider-man: Homecoming. The film, which already features Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., and Zendaya, continues to add players for parts we don't yet know about. In recent weeks, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Mando, and Tyne Daly have joined the cast of Spider-man: Homecoming. This week, we've got word that Garcelle Beauvais and Tiffany Espensen have entered the fray.

Garcelle Beauvais

Tiffany Espensen

Beauvais is best known for roles in NYPD Blue and The Jamie Foxx Show, while Espensen hails from children's shows like Kirby Buckets and Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures. As was stated earlier, there's currently no word on who either actress will be playing in Spider-man: Homecoming, though, based on her age, it's probably a safe bet that Espensen goes to high school with Holland's Peter Parker.

The Amazing Cast Of Spider-man: Homecoming Adds Garcelle Beauvais And Tiffany Espensen

Does Spider-Man: Homecoming have the biggest cast ever seen in a comic book movie? Probably not, but the trades know that Marvel + Spider-Man = clicks, so they're reporting on every single addition no matter how big or small. While their roles are predictably being kept a secret, Tiffany Espensen and Garcelle Beauvais are the latest actresses to board the highly anticipated (and extremely busy) reboot.  Espensen is a relative unknown who currently stars in Disney Xd's Kirby Buckets. She also appeared in Monsterville: The Cabinet of Souls. Beauvais meanwhile is best known for roles in The Jamie Foxx Show and NYPD Blue. Other big and small screen credits include Franklin & Bash and White House Down.  As great as all these casting additions may be, the one that the vast majority of fans want to see still hasn't happened, and that's someone to play J. Jonah Jameson. At this stage, it's unclear

Emmys Celebrate Diversity in Primetime Television

Emmys Celebrate Diversity in Primetime Television
Jason George took the stage at a crowded Montage Beverly Hills patio area Thursday evening to mark the celebration of diversity in the 67th Annual Emmy Award nominations. The patio was filled with attendees involved in showbiz — most of whom are considered a minority of some kind.

The third Dynamic & Diverse event from the TV Academy brought people from the industry old and new to celebrate the occasion. “Grey’s Anatomy” regular George, chair of SAG-aftra’s Diversity Advisory Committee, made a speech that touched on the “Empire” effect — or as he likes to call it, the “Shonda Rhimes” effect — that snowballed into the 2015-16 season having the most diverse television content in years.

“Diversity is good business,” he started. It was a statement that he had made last year before series “Black-ish” and “Fresh Off the Boat” premiered. He continued, “I don’t know if we can do ‘All in the Family
