Bill Maher filled in for Piers Morgan on his CNN program on Friday night and got to sit down with special guest Seth MacFarlane.
Maher talked to the "Family Guy" creator about the show's raunchiness and the things he can get away with on an animated show. MacFarlane admitted that there are plenty of things that go down on "Family Guy" that would be abhorrent on "Everybody Loves Raymond."
"You can't joke about things like domestic violence on a live-action show," MacFarlane said, right before Maher put him on the spot to come up with a specific example (he gets out of it by doing a Stewie impression). Luckily, Maher remembers one recent scene that definitely pushed the boundaries.

Ray Romano: 95 Miles to Go is not your standard stand-up special. Rather, it is a tour documentary directed by Romano’s good friend and fellow stand-up, Tom Caltabiano, which chronicles a tour the two men did the summer after the fifth season of Everybody Loves Raymond. The two men hopped in a car with one of the show’s interns, film student Roger Lay Jr., and visited seven cities in eight days. That covers around one thousand miles, most of which were caught on tape. Those hours of footage were whittled down into this HBO special, with mixed results.

Actress Patricia Heaton spoke with Jimmy Kimmel last night about feeling like "the actress version of Seabiscuit" when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday.
Jokes aside, the "Everybody Loves Raymond" star admitted she was genuinely moved by the ceremony, especially when her "TV husbands," including Ray Romano, offered "some very nice things" that left her choked up. Her childhood friends also showed up with a hilarious gift, which they showed off for Kimmel's audience.
Since "Raymond" (which earned her two Emmy awards), Heaton temporarily returned to the stage, and she currently stars in ABC's "The Middle." The season finale airs tonight at 8pm.

Patricia Heaton was reunited with her TV husbands Ray Romano and Neil Flynn as she was handed a Hollywood Walk of Fame honour on Tuesday.
The actress was the recipient of the 2,472nd star and her friends and family, including actor husband David Hunt and their four sons, looked on proudly as she accepted the accolade.
And they weren't the only ones cheering Heaton - her onscreen partners Romano and Flynn, from shows Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle respectively, were also on hand to celebrate with her.
Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa capped the tribute by proclaiming it Patricia Heaton Day in Hollywood, and the actress declared, "I'm overwhelmed. I came to Hollywood 20 years ago at the age of 30. I had no agent and no manager... God opened a door for me and by God I mean Ray Romano."
And in a post on her Twitter.com page, she adds, "What a fun morning! so great to have loved ones gathered together at something other than a funeral!" »

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)
ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) is returning with a new programme in January next year, taking the lead in ABC’s How to Live with your Parents (For the Rest of your Life).
After Mad Love was cancelled after a short-lived season, following Chalke’s leading role in Scrubs, we heard earlier this year that she’d signed on for a new comedy which has just had its first trailer debut.
Julie Anne Robinson (Weeds, One for the Money) is directing the pilot, from a script by Claudia Lonow (Accidentally on Purpose), with Elizabeth Perkins, Brad Garrett, and Orlando Jones, and Rachel Eggleston playing Chalke’s young daughter.
“Polly (Sarah Chalke) is a single mom who’s been divorced for almost a year. The transition wasn’t easy for her, especially in this economy. So, like a lot of young people living in this new reality, she and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston »

Single mom Polly (Sarah Chalke) needs a fresh start, and so she seeks help from her mom and dad. Whoops.
Chalke ("Scrubs," "Mad Love") plays a woman determined to be the "best single working mom in the universe" in "How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)," which easily takes this season's crown for longest show title. She looks to her folks (Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett) for support and a place to live, but mom and dad are pretty happy with their empty-nest life, and they don't see much upside into changing their ways for Polly and her daughter, Natalie (Rachel Eggleston).
Chalke is an expert at playing tightly wound characters, and Perkins is working some of the same self-centered vibe she did on "Weeds" (though without the nasty streak). Garrett, meanwhile, gets to work his deadpan in a single-camera comedy instead of playing to »

20th Century Fox TV is finalizing deals with Everybody Loves Raymond veteran Mike Royce to serve as showrunner on another family comedy, NBC’s midseason single-camera half-hour 1600 Penn, and with Community executive producers Garrett Donovan and Neil Goldman for the same duty on Fox’s fall single-camera comedy Ben and Kate. The gigs stem from Royce and Donovan & Goldman’s overall deals with the studio. Both pilots were written by scribes with no TV series writing experience. 1600 Penn was co-written by actor Josh Gad and former White House speechwriter Jon Lovett, with input from director Jason Winer; Ben & Kate was written by feature writer Dana Fox. Royce recently worked on a single-camera comedy project for 20th TV, the Fox pilot Little Brother. »

NBC has resumed the renewal of comedy series with the pickups of Parks & Recreation and Up All Night for season five and two, respectively. There is talk that freshman Whitney also is getting renewed but no confirmation on that yet. And still no renewal for NBC’s flagship comedy series The Office. Tyler Perry is back as Madea, and she's getting ready to whoop the some greedy one-percenter ass.
As the seventh in a series that may someday rival James Bond in numbers, "Madea's Witness Protection" is the latest opportunity for Forbes Magazine's highest paid man in entertainment to shake his moneymaker as Madea Simmons, the gun toting moral compass at the center of Perry's media empire.
The new trailer from Yahoo! Movies pairs him/her with comic genius Eugene Levy of Jim's Dad in "American Pie" and all the Christopher Guest movies.
Levy plays George Needleman, a Bernie Madoff-ish CFO accused of spearheading a Ponzi scheme for the New York City mafia, who's forced to enter his family into a witness protection program. Because this is a movie, the FBI decides the safest place to hide the weasel is Madea's house down south with her brother Joe, where the heartless businessman »

If FX was mildly nervous that Charlie Sheen’s public persona may affect his chances for a comeback, this information should come as a huge relief: EW has learned that test audiences who saw the pilot of his new comedy Anger Management recently were both pleased with his new half-hour comedy and eager to see the 46-year-old actor succeed in a new series.
The majority of men and women who attended a screening of the half-hour comedy in California’s San Fernando Valley last week rated the multi-camera pilot favorably, while over 80 percent gave Sheen an enthusiastic thumbs-up for his performance as an unorthodox therapist, »
