Jon Stewart Returns To WWE SummerSlam, Brings Unicorn Magic With Him

21 August 2016 8:26 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

If you’re still missing Jon Stewart, The Daily Show Host, unfortunately he’s never going back to that job. But a nice substitute just might be the weird and hilarious emergence of Jon Stewart, hard core professional wrestling fan. Stewart’s long been an outspoken fan of sports entertainment but went pro (sorry) in March 2015 when he entered into a comedic beef with wrestler Seth Rollins, even appearing with Rollins in a segment on WWE Raw mimicking the Daily Show format… »

Emmys: Is There Too Much Variety in the Variety Talk Category?

On Emmy nominations morning, many were shocked to learn that Crackle's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee — the Jerry Seinfeld web series shot with three GoPro cameras and this season comprising six episodes, each ranging from 16 to 23 minutes — was nominated for best variety talk series over several late-night stars: CBS' The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers, TBS' Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and Conan, and Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Trevor Noah and The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore (which was canceled Aug. 14). Larry Wilmore Vows to Return to Late Night: ‘I’m Not Done Yet’

19 August 2016 7:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Larry Wilmore isn’t letting a little thing like cancellation get him down.

During his last broadcast on Comedy Central Thursday night, the “Nightly Show” host was unbowed, telling viewers he was proud of the work he and his staff of contributors produced in an attempt to feature voices that don’t normally get an airing during late-night television. “As a culture, we’ve all agreed with the opinion that the world should be seen in a certain way. So at ‘The Nightly Show,’ our chief mission was to disagree with that premise, and to see the world in a way that may not make everybody comfortable,” he said. “And to present it with a cast of people who don’t always get to have a voice on that. On that front, I feel we’ve been very successful, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished.”

Martha Thomases: Oh, Larry Wilmore. We Hardly Knew Ye…

19 August 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Sad now.

Yesterday was the last episode of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

(Note: As I write this, there are still three more shows. I’m going to assume that, if something newsworthy happens on-air between my deadline and publication, my editor will let me revise this accordingly.)

The Nightly Show replaced The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert’s Comedy Central show a few months, before Trevor Noah took over The Daily Show from Jon Stewart. Both Wilmore and Noah had been featured correspondents on The Daily Show, as had Colbert a decade earlier.

I love Jon Stewart. He is the man my mother wanted me to marry (even if he’s a decade younger than I am). I also love Stephen Colbert. He’s really, really smart and he can sing. I was sad when they were no longer hosting their own fake-news shows.

The Nightly Show: Jon Stewart Gives Larry Wilmore a Heartfelt Send-Off

18 August 2016 9:12 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Just three days after The Nightly Show‘s untimely end was announced, Larry Wilmore on Thursday kept things 100 one last time — with the help of a very special guest.

“It’s never easy when your TV show gets canceled,” Wilmore began, “but for me, there has been a silver lining: all the free booze! Samantha Bee’s show sent over some cases of wine, [and] Stephen Colbert sent an amazing assortment of liquor.” (Let’s just say The Daily Show’s half-hearted pastries weren’t as well-received.)

Of course, no gift could possibly top Jon Stewart‘s; the former Daily Show »

The Daily Show's past and The Nightly Show's present converged one last time.  Jon Stewart stopped by Larry Wilmore's final episode of The Nightly Show on Thursday, initially there to take Wilmore's gifted champagne, but he stayed to chat. "What are we doing this week?" he asked, before Wilmore could pass on the bad news that it was his final show.  "Your last show? Oh, my God, what, did you piss off Peter Thiel?" Stewart, an exec producer on the show, joked, giving a nod to the recent Gawker lawsuit; later, he adviced Wilmore: "Do not confuse cancelation with failure."  "What
