‘Rick and Morty’ Fans, Check Out the Justin Roiland Series So Subversive, Bill Cosby Took Legal Action

3 October 2017 9:08 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Years before a deluge of women started speaking out about Bill Cosby’s behavior off-screen, the then-beloved comedian revealed that there were some things he didn’t find particularly funny — specifically, the web series “House of Cosbys,” an absurdist animated series created by a young Justin Roiland.

Originally produced in 2005, “House of Cosbys” was one of the first major successes for Channel 101, the screening series/digital platform created by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. “Channel 101” featured a number of comedy stars, including Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, and The Lonely Island’s Andy SambergAkiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone – while also leading to the collaboration between Harmon and Roiland that would eventually give birth to “Rick and Morty.”

It also, however, attracted the ire of Cosby, who for some reason didn’t see the humor in the show. “Cosbys” focused on Mitchell (voiced by Jeff B. Davis, who would »

30 September 2017 9:17 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Jerry Seinfeld no longer thinks we should distinguish Bill Cosby the comedian from Bill Cosby the man. We think. “Can you still listen to his comedy?” Stephen Colbert asked his Friday guest about the stand-up whom they both most-admired as kids. “Oh, yeah,” Seinfeld replied, echoing logic he’s previously shared with Norm MacDonald and others. Jerry Seinfeld: ‘Bill Cosby’s the Biggest Comedian of All Time’

30 August 2017 11:37 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Jerry Seinfeld says that despite the “horrible things” Bill Cosby is accused of doing, he remains the “biggest comedian of all time,” and one who’s “production and quality of material” will never be rivaled. Seinfeld spoke on the latest “Norm MacDonald Live,” an online show that never shies away from awkward conversations. (MacDonald’s deadpan, often-ironic delivery can make it impossible to tell when he’s kidding.) Cosby came up as Seinfeld and MacDonald talked about the comedians who influenced them, and led to a discussion of whether you can separate a person’s art and personal conduct. It included a fair amount of. »

As Joss Whedon and Others Are Confronted By Their Treatment Of Women, Fandom Is Evolving to Listen

23 August 2017 2:50 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

As stories of sexual abuse and assault by well-known men grow more commonplace, a refrain has emerged, one that might sound like a plea: Listen to women. Believe women. Even when they speak out against someone that might be considered a genius or hero, don’t ignore their stories.

This week, “listen to women” became a roar. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator Joss Whedon’s ex-wife Kai Cole wrote frankly from her perspective about Whedon being a “fake feminist” and the years he allegedly spent cheating on her. Tig Notaro, in promoting the new season of her Amazon series “One Mississippi,” spoke out regarding sexual harrassment allegations made against Louis C.K.,who also serves as the show’s executive producer.

And after an anonymous letter went to hundreds of people in the indie film industry, accusing those who run Los Angeles-based nonprofit film society Cinefamily of enabling an atmosphere of »

Bill Cosby has a new start date for his sexual assault retrial.  Judge Steven O'Neill granted the comedian and his new legal representatives' request to postpone the trial in order to have more time to prepare. The tentative start date was pushed back until mid-March or early April of 2018, months after the retrial was set to begin on Nov. 6 of this year. "To ask someone to review the voluminous record over 18 months—now 20 months in this case—simply cannot be done," O'Neill said from the bench during today's pre-trial hearing in Norristown, Penn.  Cosby's first trial ended in a mistrial after the jury announced it was deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict »

Bill Cosby's retrial on sexual assault charges will be delayed until next year as his new legal team gets up to speed on the case, which pits the 80-year-old comedian against a woman who says he drugged and molested her more than a decade ago.

Judge Steven O'Neill on Tuesday granted a defense request to postpone the retrial, which had been scheduled to start in November, saying there's no way that Cosby's lawyers would be ready by then.
