The town's Gaelic name is Baile Cosic Aingil, meaning "The Town of the Fallen Angel". It was taken from the actual Irish town of Ballykissane.

'Owen Roe (I)''s character who appeared once each in the first and third seasons was originally named Sean Dooley, but when he returned as a regular character late in the fifth season, his name was switched to Paul Dooley because Lorcan Cranitch's character Sean Dillon had been introduced in the third season.

Although the Comic Relief crossover episode "Ballykissdibley" has never been officially re-broadcast as part of The Vicar of Dibley, or Ballykissangel, series canons, it is possible to find this charity episode online on certain video streaming websites.

For BBC's Comic Relief 1997, The Vicar of Dibley did a short cross over episode called Ballykissdibley featuring Peter and Assumpta. Although it has never been officially re-broadcast as part of The Vicar of Dibley, it can be found on certain video streaming websites. This for charity episode does imply that the 2 series exist within the same fictional story universe.
