That little summary pretty much describes this series. While it was on TV, Sinbad seemed like a great little show. There was swashbuckling, action, humour, and creatures. Sure the FX were a little bad, but they were really still in their infancy then as far as TV shows go. Even the Hercules The Legendary Journeys effects seemed great then but are very poor now. I still enjoyed the show. It was great too how Sinbad grew up as the show progressed. I just wish there had been a third season to tie up some of the loose ends. Even a TV movie would have been great. Hopefully, the DVD release of season one will prompt others to go back and experience the nostalgia of a Saturday afternoon watching Sinbad.

Fun 90's show for a young audience

This is a fun show for audience aged below 25. The characters are cast with the right actors and certainly they played their respective parts well. Maeve and Sinbad make a very attractive on-screen couple and the side characters Doubar, Rongar and Firouz are quite likeable. Some of the villians are interesting specially Rumina.
The show although fun did not live up to it's full potential and become a great show. It ended after 2 seasons before the stories of the show could be brought to a satisfying end. Maeve's character not returning in Season 2 was somewhat bad for the show and it clearly didn't fully recover in Season 2. It might have in Season 3 but we will never know now. The show had some other issues too. The action scenes were not that great and sometimes you could skip through them during the episode without harming your viewing experience. Some of the shooting locations were repetitive like the island sea beach.
Nevertheless the show did have some good episodes and some great moments. Overall the show is not great but it's still watchable with occasionally very good moments. Watch a few episodes and see if you can get into it.

Good child series

I remember this series I saw when I was little. Nothing particularly special or original but it works quite well. A crew of pirates (it is said that it is Sinbad but in reality it could have been anyone else) forms the usual group in search of treasures and adventures worthy of any fantasy series. Perfect if you don't know what to watch on Sunday afternoons. The CGI was horrible even then.

I used to watch this show with my little brother on Saturday mornings before I left for work, I loved the first season!!! Sinbad was as usual white but he was attractive and made me laugh, his brother was equally funny and I loved seeing the two of them and the way they would tease each other. Maeve was independent and I really think the show suffered without her, her replacement Bryn was likable but somehow I just really missed the chemistry Maeve and Sinbad had.
All the other characters were funny (and the only reason I watched the second series in full) and fit in well with the rest of the cast and the story lines.

Sinbad was obviously canceled due to the low audience on it's second season. After the character of Maeve left, the producers made the show darker, sexier and that lead them to an unevitable cancelation.
I want to remember AoS on it's first season, when Sinbad and his crew were fighting to find Dim Dim and save the world in the meantime, the wonderful chemistry between Zen Gesner and Jacqueline Collen was one of the reasons everybody fell in love with Maeve and Sinbad.
I not even watched Season 2, I was very sad when I knew about Jacqeline Collen's departure, but I said to myself "Hey Sinbad is not going to change because of her lost, in fact he's going to fight harder ro find Dim-Dim and get her back" Unfortuntaley I was wrong and I stopped watching the show at the fourth episode of Season 2, when I realized that they were making a fool of me.Let's face it you can't replace a sweet independent sorceress like Maeve with a juvenile criminal like Bryn (no offence to Bryn fans, I just dont like her)

The Adventures of Sinbad aired for two seasons. Both were excellent. The first season was unique and family friendly, the second season was less so.
The darker changes came about, partially due to trying to un-Disney-fy it, mostly due to the change of producing companies who wanted something "sexier", more like Xena and Hercules. The problem was fans didn't want another Xena or Hercules type show. Some liked the new changes, others didn't, many of those others left. However, AoS still got hyped (word of mouth) as being a friendly family show, because that's (mostly) what it was first season and that's what people expected it to be during the second season, which it really wasn't, though it did keep most of its audience.
Last thoughts: It was well casted and well acted. The chemistry of the cast on-screen was *great* and their easy nature carried across to the audience. The good guys were good, the bad guys were also good. The special effects only got better as the series went on.
I found the show to be a rare and unique treasure among all the shows out there, but more importantly it was even more so within its own genre.

This was one of the so-called copy-cat-ish shows of Xena and Hercules back in the day, trying to ride on the wind of those successes. Unfortunately, it was nowhere as good as the aforementioned two.
I mean Hercules was for a younger audience and was decent enough. Xena was magical and wonderful and is part of cult history greatness. As it should be. This show just didn't have all the sum of all the parts that Herc and Xena had. Whether it be sound editing or the score, or directing or the acting. They tried to be hip like Xena but just came off looking stupid.
The lead actor was kind of awful. He said his lines like he was reading them. You know, like how one might read to a child. It sounding expressive in that way. Which a child might appreciate when you read to them. But that's not how you do it when acting. You don't say your lines like that. I found him annoying every time he opened his mouth. He was good looking though. But good looks can't make up for bad acting.
I only watched maybe 5-10 episodes here and there in the two seasons. I kept trying to give it a chance in hopes it would improve. I always loved the One Thousand and One Nights stories which included Sinbad. This brings me to the next point of how this was so whitified. I mean these people were so pale, you could use them as a rescue signal. Except for one black guy character who didn't speak.
I think it may be ok for maybe very little ones, say 5-8 years old. Although it gives a very bad impression that the heroes of One Thousand and One Night weren't in fact Middle Eastern, Arabs, Asian, Muslim, etc, but instead were white people unclear of religion. Show them the truth, to begin with. Show them heroes can belong to other races and cultures too. 2/10.

Two Good Seasons

"The Adventures of Sinbad" was a short lived, but entertaining action and adventure show from an era of television that appears to have been lost to the world here in 2007. It was like "Hercules" and "Xena" in some ways, no matter how light or dark it was. But it also had its own charm and was its own show. It ran for two seasons. The first was lighter. The second took a slightly darker turn, as did the show's title character, but he wasn't arrogant, self-centered, or evil like some people claim. He had seen a less than perfect world and lost a friend(s). Had the show had a third season, things would have balanced themselves out. Give both seasons a chance. They are both special and have their share of good and bad episodes. Even heroes have issues to work out, which is part of what makes them and their stories legendary and human.

All I have to say is that I felt this show was boring. Half the time the women were falling out of their clothes. Instead of Sinbad being a nice guy they changed him to a not so nice guy, me and a few friends felt that he was not a good role modal for our children and did not let them watch the show any more. The show is no longer on and I say thats great!

This is one of those shows that you love, but the only people you tell are your best friends. It was funny, adventurous, exciting, and had terrific cast. It was sad when Maeve left the show, because everything went downhill from there. One thing I loved was the way the special effects resembled the old Sinbad movies. This was a highly underated TV program. If it ever comes on in syndication, I suggest everyone watch at least one episode (preferably from season one).

I for one love the first season. Maeve and Sinbad were so adorable.Too bad their romantic scenes together were very few. Well, I guess thats what kept me watching just to see their love slowly grow.
Their romance wasn't too mushy or draggy. It could have used at least two more kissing scenes and much more hugging ones. Not so much that they are always all over each other.
I was just extremely disappointed about not being able to see Maeve and Sinbad together in the 2nd season. I was expecting more development in their character as well as their romance. :(
Yes the special effects and fighting were very cheesy, but the story and cast did a great job.
I watched a bit of the 2nd series and it was a dramatic change to Sinbad, and then they added Bryn. Bryn was alright, but just couldn't compare to Maeve. I just couldn't ever finish the 2nd season. I was still too hooked on Sinbad x Maeve as a couple. Yes, I'm hopeless romantic and darn proud of it.
I agreed with some of the comment about there being several other seasons (least 5). They had so much they could have done to the series. They could have made it great.

I do agree it did lose its way after the departure of Maeve, I personally find Bryn rather bland myself, but overall, I loved this series and I still do. I liked how the special effects seemed to resemble the effects from the original movies, and the scenery was striking. The music was rousing and exciting, the writing was witty and humorous and the plot-lines had plenty of adventure and fun, just how I like it. The characters are very likable, and the acting is good enough.
Overall, a fun show on the whole, perfect to wake up on Sunday mornings, which was like a tradition a decade or so ago with me and my siblings. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Sinbad-promising start, ignoble end

I used to watch this show every Saturday along with Xena and Hercules. It was obviously produced by Ed Naha et al. to take advantage of the successes of Sam Raimi's better funded ventures. Comparisons are inevitable and unfortunately the production values of this show leaves one with the impression that it was the poor cousin to the other two. Still, it made the most of what it had and I thought the episodes were entertaining. Gripes: Major characters not very well fleshed out, some continuity issues, chemistry b/n the major characters - what chemistry?? Other people talk about this relationship with Maeve and Sinbad but other than some eye contact, there wasn't much to go on. I guess the show just didn't "come together" like the Raimi shows did. Second season suffered from loss of Jacqueline Collen (Maeve) and, as mentioned elsewhere, a turn towards the "dark side". Reasons why I watched it - interesting stories, cool fight scenes, 3D animation, gratuitous up the skirt shots of Bryn and Maeve. Other than that last point the show was well suited for children and young adolescents who are more forgiving of the gripes that I mentioned. Too bad it was killed when one of the production companies got cold feet, I'm sure it would have lasted at least another season or two.
The 2nd Season and Bryn Made This a Favorite

I liked the cute, charming 1st season, but if the show had been canceled after that season, then I wouldn't have given the Adventures of Sinbad another thought. It was the slightly darker, more adult 2nd season and the addition of Bryn that made this a show that I still miss more than 10 years after it was prematurely ended due to internal politics. Season 3 was set to go until the new production company pulled the plug at the last minute.
I enjoyed Season 2 more because Sinbad was more mature and therefore more believable as the captain of the Nomad that season. Although I thought he was adorable in Season 1, he was too much like a little boy playing dress up that season.
Bryn was a better fit in Season 2 because the actress playing Bryn was a better, more believable fighter, which fit in better with the darker tone of that Season. Also, the actress did a good job in peaking my curiosity about her character's background. I was really looking forward to seeing how her storyline played out over the years.

The first season was better with the handsome Sinbad and there was a chemistry between Sinbad and Maeve. There were also some plots that could have been expanded. In the 2nd season, everything was forgotten! Bryn was a mediocre character with hardly any lines.

Very good family type adventure show

I have been a fan of this show since I first saw it. Good old fashioned serial type plots. Great cast that had a good blending. It is a shame the show was canceled. Some people are trying to get it back though.
I thought the show was on par with Hercules and Xena with effects, plots, and great actors.

Yeah, I admit it; when this series aired I used to catch it on my lunch break every so often. It's really a kids adventure show, and not meant to be anything more than that. Shot in, I believe, South Africa, the show had a kind of campy appeal to it. Every time Sinbad and crew arrived at a "new" village, it was actually the same old village they'd built for the show, only shot at a different angle.
As usual Sinbads "Arab" origins are veiled by Anglo actors due to demographics... oh well. Myself, I think the show would've done just as well with a culturally authentic cast. It is after all a show for kids, and kids are pretty forgiving when it comes to perceptions. But that's neither here nor there.
The CGI and other effects were what they were, and the plots were pretty basic. The acting, for what the show was, was passable. I found it to be good mindless fun as I chowed down a salad in front of the tube.
If it ever comes to DVD, and by that I mean a good quality transfer and not some knockoff, then I'll buy a copy.

However, Sinbad and her have kind of dynamic and interesting relationship. I agree that they had great chemistry, even they only kissed once and the rest was just "eyes communication".

We need this show back. It is sorely missed. Great action scenes, excellent cgi, wonderful cast and crew (also behind the scenes) Acting was good, stories were dead on, like Hercules or Xena, or even Highlander.
We need this sailor back on the airwaves. IT is in some parts of the world, be we in America, and Canada miss it.
We need this sailor back on the airwaves. IT is in some parts of the world, be we in America, and Canada miss it.
It could of been better and run more seasons

The show was not the best of all but compare to such fantastic other shows it was a prime. The First Season was much more humouristic and fantastic but the second season was much more darker and mature.
Since some years i have written a few scenarios based on this TV show because the characters were simply excellent. Julianne Morris(Rumina) was the most seductive and nice and tight character.
The characters: Doubar, Firouz, Rongar, and Mustaphah were attractive and taking good. Sinbad was less good that teenagers could like in a hero. In the second season Sinbad was a dirty fresh arrogant guy who beat everyone anywhere.
Some episodes were excellent, in the first season: The 2 first episodes with the"Return of Sinbad" were pretty much well. Every episodes with Rumina were formidable. One of the best of season I or the BEST was the "Rhonin" and another who was pretty good was "Covnemdrum" with Scrath,lord of Darkness. Some reviews could of been done for certain episodes as to make them darker and sinister and admirable.
In season II, the special effects still abominable,the episodes were significant and considerable. The Best of them were: The Gift(surviving Babuk too remarkable), Heart and Soul(vampires), Hell House(original at last)with "the Cursed of the Gorgones" and "Castle Keep" were the best episodes.
However some weaknesses were done so large so big. Special effects were nutty, decorative castles and cities and villages weren't original or watchable (except Baghdad). A note: In season II, Sinbad is a super hero which it shouldn't be one so far. The fight weren't good with him. He's always beating the bad guys so easily except in 4or5 episodes:the Gift(sure he lost), the Gryphon Tale, The Castle Keep and the Heart and Soul. You can watch Sinbad but you better drop in some special episodes.

I wonder, it seems that no one liked the second season.
I do understand, and know from Mr. Naha, that there were tons of behind the scenes changes that couldn't be forseen during first season production.
But, I loved most of the changes. It was that Sinbad grew up a bit. (Maybe that's why everyone hated the changes) Bryn was a character that literally had to be made on the fly, when Jacqueline (maeve) had to leave suddenly.
Don't get me wrong, I did find first season enjoyable in some aspects. It reunited me with an old childhood love (the Character Sinbad the Sailor).
That being said, I am exctatic that there is soon to be the first season DVD set available. It is available in Canada, and us in the states can get copies via ebay or websites like Amazon.ca. We can hope that second season isn't far behind, and that tons of extras are going to be on the dvd's.

Pretty Bad, but I own it anyway, and you should too

First there was Action Pack. A syndicated Saturday Afternoon 2 hour block of Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies. This included 4 Hercules movies, 4 Tek War movies, a Knight Rider movie or 2, and some others. Both Tek War and Hercules got their own shows. Kung Fu The Legend Continues might of spawned out of this, I'm not sure. But there was some other Kung Fu type show that spawned out of it. Rising Son(s)? Vanishing Son(s)? Tek War went to USA, the others remained syndicated. Eventually Hercules was by itself, and then Xena was spun off. After a year or two of Xena, the Production company started 2 new series. Tarzan the Legendary Journeys and the Adventures of Sinbad. Eventually the production company went on to make the popular Lost Word.
Tarzan was mostly watchable, but Sinbad was just dumb. Trying to be funny, yet all the jokes fall flat. Poor acrobatics. Poor fight scenes. In a sword fight in Still Life, Sinbad is holding his sword up waiting for the other guy to hit it. Originally I don't even think I made it 10 minutes into the first episode before I gave up. Though I'm pretty sure I kept recording them. I had no idea that the show made it to a second season.
I just bought the 1st season on DVD, and though it has its bad sides, I do believe it is well worth owning. There are plenty of monsters, and some interesting, if not retread, stories.
From what I have read about the Second season, I really hope Koch releases it on DVD as well, a darker vision is just what this show needed. Buy it now, I can't imagine they will be in print for long.

Bad but good

Okay, so a white cast of white people play "arab" characters.
Okay, so it was even cheesier than Hercules and Xena.
Okay, so it was pretty damn bad.
But, you know what? It was oh so good. Believe me when I say that this show was so bad it was good. This show premiered during that period when Hercules and Xena was HUGE and the rage was trying to make other syndicated action series. And you know what? As a 14 year old I watched them all. I watched Robin Hood, I watched Sinbad, and I watched Beastmaster. And, let's face it- in the eyes of a 14 year old girl the hunk who played Sinbad was REALLY hot. Basically, the show for me is built around that. So, if you, like me, want to re-live your early pubescent hot fantasy. THIS was the show for you.
