‘The Crown’: What Emmy Frontrunner John Lithgow Learned About Acting By Playing Winston Churchill
If you weren’t at John Lithgow’s 70th birthday celebration in London, you missed the chance to party with some of Britain’s most elite actors.

“My wife threw a 70th birthday party for me for about 50 people, and she and I were the only Americans,” the actor told IndieWire. “Maybe 60, 70 percent of these people were actors, but only half of them were actors from ‘The Crown.’ The others were people that I’d worked with on other projects – Jonathan Price, and Jim Broadbent, and David Suchet. They came in one after another and it was this constant moment of, ‘What are you doing here?’ They all knew each other.”

10 largely forgotten UK sci-fi sitcoms

Remember Kinvig, Clone, Not With A Bang? These are the UK sci-fi sitcoms you’re unlikely to see on comedy best-of lists…

With E4 sci-fi comedy commissions, Tripped and Aliens, and in-development Channel 4 projects, Space Ark and Graham Linehan/Adam Buxton collaboration The Cloud, in the works, a new crop of sci-fi sitcom could be making its way to UK TV.

Making funny sci-fi on a small-screen budget is tough enough without the additional pressure of having to attract viewers more traditionally down-to-earth in their sitcom tastes. Sci-fi sets and effects can be seen as prohibitively expensive by comedy commissioners (which is perhaps why the best UK sci-fi sitcoms of recent years has been on BBC Radio), and the genre’s niche status doesn’t scream mainstream hit. Over the years, one or two stand-outs have managed to straddle the sci-fi and comedy TV worlds, but plenty more have stumbled in the attempt.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Will Play Edward Snowden In This Controversial Biopic

Hollywood is full of stories about child stars who made it big young, then flamed out and met tragic ends. Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is not one of those cautionary tales. The actor, who got his big break as a fresh-faced kid on television series like Roseanne and Third Rock from the Sun, has made quite a career for himself in years since those shows went off the air. And the latest industry buzz has the actor potentially playing one of the most controversial figures in recent American history: Nsa whistle-blower Edward Snowden. Deadline reports that Oliver Stone is keenly interested in getting Gordon-Levitt to headline his new bipoic about the former CIA system administrator. Snowden became a hot topic in 2013 after divulging the extent of governmental surveillance in the wake of 9/11, eventually forcing him to seek asylum in Russia. With filming set to begin this December in Munich, time

Synopsis:

Some of Sin City’s most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.

John Lithgow Says He Turned Down David Cronenberg's 'The Fly' Because It Was "Icky" And "Grotesque"

Considering he's done everything from playing the alien dad in "Third Rock From The Sun," to being a delightfully deranged serial killer in "Dexter," to guiding Bigfoot through "Harry And The Hendersons" (and tons of other roles, obviously), the idea of the multi-talented, always busy John Lithgow playing the lead in David Cronenberg's "The Fly" isn't so farfetched. And it seems that part was his back in the day, but he turned it down. Why? It was too gross. Chatting with In Magazine (via Global News), the actor revealed that even though he was encouraged to take the part, he ultimately declined. “My agent wanted me to do 'The Fly' and I didn’t want to do it. I just finished another project and I was exhausted, and I found it such an icky story," Lithgow said. “I told my agent I just didn’t want to play something so grotesque.

Birthday Gallery: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Turns 33

We first got to know Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a child star, through his many commercials, such feature films as Angels In The Outfield, and most notably his TV appearances, including a six-season stint as alien Tommy on Third Rock From The Sun.

He left acting for a few years to attend college, and he came back with a renewed vigor, focusing on gritty independent films and character studies. His role in 2004′s Mysterious Skin as a gay prostitute completely redefined his career, and is one of the great performances of the last decade.

Joseph has maintained an eclectic career, appearing in beloved indies Latter Days and 500 Days Of Summer (for which he received a Golden Globe nomination), and big-budget fare G.I. Joe and The Dark Knight Rises. Last year he wrote, directed, and starred in the well-received Don Jon.

We don’t know what he’ll bring us in the future,
