Storyline

Patrik is an air force pilot, one of the most daring and promising. However, while diving he breaks his spine and is paralyzed from the waist and down. His anger and self pity know no bounds and he ultimately breaks up from his girlfriend Mia. But a new therapist tries to help him to accept that there are other things in life than being a maverick pilot with an attitude.

Swedish Airforce looking for an opening

This film can be seen as one in a series starting in 1941 with Första Divisionen, in which pilots from a dive-bomber squadron were the protagonists and the film served as propaganda for the Swedish Airforce. In 1954 Gula Divisionen performed the same function during the golden age of the Swedish Airforce with much aerial acrobatics featuring the SAAB Tunnan jet. Thus for every era the Airforce sought to showcase its material on the big screen. In 1995 it was the turn of the SAAB Viggen fighter to be featured in the cinema, but since the cold war had ended there was no enemy in the background and therefore the screenplay focuses much more on the camaraderie and true grit of the Airforce pilots in face of personal hardships than on combat training. The first part of the film introduces a devil-may-care pilot and has some nice aerial shots of the Viggen in action, but the second part of the film focuses on the personal battle fought by the pilot after a debilitating accident. It is nothing you haven't seen before in different other movies, but it is not badly done.
