This holiday season, Netflix will add blockbuster comedies new and old to its collection, as well as some more artistic fare fresh from festival circuit. Next month on the streaming platform, home viewers can catch the comedic stylings of Chris Pratt in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” in case they missed it in theaters. If you prefer something a little darker, the Wachowskis’ dystopian epic “V for Vendetta” will also be available.

The Meg: here’s the synopsis for Statham vs Giant Shark movie

Simon Brew Nov 10, 2017

Jason Statham vs a 75 foot shark. And now we have a synopsis...

The movie gods saw we were suffering. They saw we’d sat through The Emoji Movie. They saw us toiling through Transformers sequels. They saw us desperately trying to find goodness in the depths of The Mummy.

And so they smiled. In fact, they didn’t just smile. They gave us a euphoric grin and decreed that yes, in 2018, we could have a movie where The Statham does battle with a giant shark. And, said the movie gods, just for shits and giggles, we’ll get the director of While You Were Sleeping to make it.

The Meg, ladies and gentlemen. A film for which this website feels that it was invented.

It arrives in cinemas on August 10th 2018, boasting a cast that features Li Bingbing, Cliff Curtis, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy,

Gong Li to Star in Martin Campbell’s Action-Thriller ‘Ana’ (Exclusive)
Chinese actress Gong Li will star in the Europe-set action-thriller “Ana,” with Martin Campbell on board to direct.

Rush Hour” producer Arthur Sarkissian and China’s Bruno Wu are producing the movie, which Wu is also financing. Sarkissian told Variety that they plan to start production in March or April.

The script is written by Richard Wenk, whose credits include “The Equalizer,” “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” and “The Expendables 2.” Sarkissian said “Ana” will be similar in tone to Luc Besson’s 1990 actioner “La Femme Nikita.”

“Ana” re-teams Campbell and Sarkissian following the Jackie Chan actioner “The Foreigner,” which opens Friday in North America with expectations of a $10 million debut weekend. “The Foreigner” is projected to earn $88 million in international markets by the end of the upcoming weekend.

Gong’s credits date back to Zhang Yimou’s directorial debut, “Red Sorghum,” which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1988. Since then, she’s appeared

The Big Sick – the year’s most likably unlikely romcom

Illness threatens a blossoming romance in a touching cross-cultural comedy based on the co-writers’ real-life courtship

The oft-quoted instruction to “write what you know” (attributed to everyone from Mark Twain to Faulkner and Hemingway) has become something of a cliche, stifling as many writers as it inspires. Yet Emily V Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani have put this formula to winning use in their screenplay for the year’s most likably unlikely romcom.

A fictionalised account of an episode in which a rare disease landed Gordon in a medically induced coma while Nanjiani got to know her parents for the first time, The Big Sick is While You Were Sleeping for the wide-awake generation, a beautiful blend of real-life grit and Four Weddings fantasy. Produced by Judd Apatow, under whose patronage Bridesmaids became a mould-breaking hit, this touching tale of cross-cultural entanglement finds a Pakistan-born man and an American woman wrestling

The 25 Best Romances of the 21st Century, From ‘Carol’ to ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’

The 25 Best Romances of the 21st Century, From ‘Carol’ to ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’
Eat your heart out, moviegoers. Everyone loves a good love story whether they admit it or not, and the 21st century has brought us more than a few couples worth rooting for: Clementine and Joel, Ennis and Jack, Joaquin and his computer. Often these unions are unconventional or hidden in the guise of something more high-concept — straightforward romances are so 20th century — but at the end of the day, we all want to see a happy ending for our smitten lovers.

Our list goes all over the map, from the mainstream maestro Nancy Meyers to international masters like Wong Kar-Wai. Some were blockbuster hits (“Twilight,” “The Proposal”); others have hardly been seen stateside at all (Lee Chang-dong’s 2002 “Oasis”). However, all of them illustrate some essential element of love, from falling to longing and all the sticky bits in between.

While the zeitgeist has skewed toward the melancholy, that’s

‘The Big Sick’ Review: Kumail Nanjiani Mostly Hits the Mark in Auto-Bio-Rom-Com
You can’t spell romance without c-o-m-a; oddly enough, this state of deep unconsciousness has previously been mined for screen love stories as disparate as the quirky farce “While You Were Sleeping” and Pedro Almodóvar’s haunting masterpiece “Talk to Her.” In “The Big Sick,” screenwriters Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon retell their own real-life love story, as his adoration for her grew even as she was medically unresponsive. It’s a tale that involves comedy-club dreams, immigrant parents clashing with their American-raised children, and a relationship where one partner experiences personal growth while the other is intubated. Those are a lot.

‘Headshot’ Review: ‘The Raid’ Star Iko Uwais Stars in Another Brutally Exhausting Bloodbath
Everything you need to know about “Headshot,” an Indonesian bloodbath that stars the same actor from “The Raid” and feels like it was cut together from that film’s deleted footage, can be gleaned from an early fight scene aboard a public bus that’s just been shot to pieces by a gang of vicious criminals.

Our hero, an amnesiac ass-kicker named Ishmael (Iko Uwais), doesn’t remember that he used to be a member of the same syndicate that he’s now trying to kill, hops on board and promptly begins to snap ligaments and gouge eyeballs. Directors Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto make spectacular use of the confined area, and — as with all of the many, many death matches that are stretched across this saga — the sequence continues for so long that you forget how the characters actually got there.

So when Ishmael eventually tackles one of the

Coming Distractions: Passengers might be a straight up rom-com, based on this new trailer

  • The AV Club
When the first Passengers trailer came out, it presented the movie as a thriller akin to Gravity. But a new look at the film seems to be riffing on some other films in the Sandra Bullock canon. It’s While You Were Sleeping...in space! Or Two Weeks Notice...in space! Or some other rom com...in space! Gone are the shots of our two dashing leads in peril, replaced by images of them frolicking around having a grand old time on a spaceship. They watch a movie. They go swimming. They have dinner. They have sex. They dance in a goofy fashion. Then they venture out into the great unknown in suits, possibly on a suicide mission. Who knows?

This is all scored to a treacly original song from Imagine Dragons, “Levitate,” about how she’s his shooting star because, you know, they are flying among those balls of

Jon Turteltaub, Jonathan Prince Board Cruise Ship Comedy for CBS Films (Exclusive)

CBS Films is developing an untitled cruise ship comedy based on pitch from Jacob Meszaros and Zach Taylor with Jon Turteltaub and Jonathan Prince producing, Variety has learned.

The story follows four longtime girlfriends who take a break from their grown-up lives, as they get to re-live their adolescent fantasies on a reunion cruise headlined by their favorite ’90s boy band. As they sail among 2,000 other crazed superfans, friendships will be tested, alliances will be formed, and bad decisions will be made. Courtney Saladino is executive producing.

The project is being developed in the vein of “Bad Moms,” “Bridesmaids,” and “Last Vegas,” which Turteltaub directed for CBS Films. Turteltaub’s directing credits include “Cool Runnings,” “While You Were Sleeping, “Phenomenon,” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and both “National Treasure” movies, which he also produced.
