Storyline

Seal Team Commander Casey Ryback has retired from the Navy since the conclusion of the events in the first movie, and is now a chef at the Mile High Cafe in Denver, Colorado. Ryback is taking his niece Sarah Ryback on vacation, to reconnect and commiserate with her after the death of her parents. They board a train traveling westbound through the Rocky Mountains from Denver to LA. With the help of gun-for-hire Marcus Penn a couple dozen of his mercenaries, ex-CIA brain (and mentally unstable) Travis Dane commandeers the train, takes the passengers and crew hostage, and sets up a mobile control center. He hacks into the CIA database and gains control of a Top-Secret defence satellite he designed during his Agency days that has just been deployed. Funded by various foreign interests, he stands to make 1 billion dollars for using the space weapon to blow up the Eastern seaboard by targeting a nuclear reactor housed beneath the Pentagon. Dane taunts the Joint Chiefs in the Pentagon ... Written by Angus Brewer

Trivia

Couple scenes had to be cut down for R rating; During the fight with a one eyed terrorist after Ryback cuts the terrorist's wrist their fight concluded with Ryback stabbing the terrorist in the neck causing blood to spurt out which is why you see blood on the terrorists chin and sweater when he falls out of the cupboard. The climatic fight between Ryback and Penn was also more graphic and brutal, at one point Ryback forces Penn's face onto a hot cooker before they fall down the stairs, which is why Penn has a large red mark on his left cheek in the rest of the scene. Goofs

The spotlights behind Travis Dane during the "Paris Feed" disappear when he is on screen at the command center. However, by the staging of the spot lights on the back drop on the train, the lights should be visible to those in the command room. See more »

Highly entertaining, implausible action.
14 June 2004 | by See all my reviews

A high water mark in the career of Mr Segal. He returns to the screen as the, unflappable, invincible, ice cool, ultra hard Casey Ryback. See him leap from a speeding train, rock climb, roll in dirt, take bullets in the arm, all without putting a mark on his immaculate black suit. No messing about with drawn out fight scenes against a super hard villain, everyone is dispatched with minimum of effort as no-one is anywhere near as hard as Casey Ryback. No-one is more entertaining as to watch as the one man army than Segal. If you watch this film expecting an intellectual script and fine acting then you will be disappointed. But if you expect that from any all out action film I expect you are a fool. Totally over the top, totally unbelievable but a total blast.
