Ellen Page Reveals Brett Ratner’s Abusive Behaviour On X-Men: The Last Stand Set

Everyone knew Hollywood was kinda scummy, but the steady flow of gross revelations about actors, directors and producers has shocked even us. These nightmarish stories have gone unreported for years, the victims assuming at best they’d be disbelieved and at worst their careers would be ruined. Now, however, people are coming forth and the latest actor to tell their story is Ellen Page, who says that, on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand, director Brett Ratner subjected her to a torrent of vile abuse.

In her own words (via a statement on her Facebook page):

You should fuck her to make her realize she’s gay.’ He said this about me during a cast and crew ‘meet and greet’ before we began filming, X-Men: The Last Stand. I was eighteen years old. He looked at a woman standing next to me, ten years my senior, pointed to

Six women have accused director and producer Brett Ratner of sexual abuse, according to a report in today's Los Angeles Times. The accusations span more than a decade. Speaking through a representative, Ratner has "categorically" denied all the claims.

Species star Natasha Henstridge alleges that when she was 19 she fell asleep in Ratner's New York apartment while watching a film with friends, and that when she woke up and found that the others had left, he forced her to perform oral sex.

She told the La Times: "He strong-armed me in a real way. He physically forced himself onto me. At some point, I gave in and he did his thing.”

Olivia Munn, who recently contributed her vocal talents to The Lego Ninjago Movie, which Ratner produced, claims that in 2004 he masturbated in front of her when she met him in his trailer to talk about.

Exclusive Interview with McLaren director Roger Donaldson

Paul Risker chats with McLaren director Roger Donaldson

“Every movie is different” says filmmaker Roger Donaldson. “There are always so many things to keep you interested and so I’m not bored yet.” The story of racing driver, constructor and engineer Bruce McLaren has become the primary focus of Donaldson. It is one that has seen him transition away from a long series of narrative features including: Cocktail, Species, Dante’s Peak and The Recruit, to direct documentary McLaren. While the Cold War drama Thirteen Days indicates his interest in real life stories, his 1971 documentary short Burt Munro: Offerings to the God of Speed, and 2005 narrative feature The World’s Fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins as Burt Munro, connects merges his three interests of life, fiction and racing.

In conversation with Flickering Myth, Donaldson discussed a career in film that has embraced change, yet is one underpinned by the stability of his choices.

No One Can Hear You Scream: Life and Death in Space Horror

Tony Black on space horror…

The release this week of Life, the new science-fiction horror film from Daniel Espinosa, may herald for many a revelation if they’re unfamiliar with a sub-genre all of its own – the space horror movie. Espinosa’s film is entertaining, if workmanlike, and will be enjoyed primarily by people unfamiliar with the cavalcade of pictures it pilfers from across its running time, but can it really hold a candle to the movies it’s professing to update and sit alongside? That’s arguable.

What matters is the aforementioned sub-genre it now sits within, as it’s as rich and full as the wide variety of other sub-genres in horror or indeed science-fiction. Life, like many other movies we’ll mention here, owes its existence and a huge debt to what may not have been the first sci-fi horror movie, but is undoubtedly still the grandmaster.

Roger Donaldson to Direct Racial Drama ‘Jena Six’ (Exclusive)

Roger Donaldson to Direct Racial Drama ‘Jena Six’ (Exclusive)
Roger Donaldson is directing the independent drama “Jena Six,” with production set to start in April in New Orleans, Variety has learned exclusively.

Donaldson, whose recent credits include “November Man” and “The Bank Job,” is directing from a screenplay by Jonathan Amaret. Producers are Amaret and Dawn Krantz (“Man Down”).

The “Jena Six” were six black high school students in a small Louisiana town who were initially charged with attempted murder in a 2006 attack on a white student. The attack took place several months after a series of racial incidents at the school, including three nooses hanging from a tree at the high school a day after a black student asked the principal if black students could sit under the tree.

The victim of the attacks was treated at an emergency room for several hours and attended a high school dance that evening. The six teenagers were arrested and Mychal Bell,

The Bottom Shelf: John Carpenter, Absurd, Intruder, Creepy

Nick Aldwinckle Mar 2, 2017

Vampires, Ghosts Of Mars and the super-tense Creepy lead our latest round-up of horror DVDs and Blu-rays...

Any regular readers (there must be a few of you; there must be) will be more than aware of this writer’s borderline obsessive love for the movies of one John Carpenter. You’ve got your Halloween, The Thing, They Live or The Fog, but everyone knows the real quality comes in the form of the later films in this cult film-maker, lord of the synth and accomplished ‘tache-wearer’s career and the classics that are Escape From L.A and his TV-movie take on Village Of The Damned. No? Ok, those are both more than a little iffy, but with the latest Blu-ray release of two other generally maligned late efforts in Carpenter’s body of work, we ask the age-old question 'Was Vampires really that bad?'
