Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how much explicit content of that kind there is in the film on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the last section is the total sum of the sections over the highest sum possible (50) and is therefore an approximation of about how explicit the film is a whole.Sex & Nudity: 2an obese man lays on an autopsy table naked (however shown from a distance)
Violence & Gore: 8The story is about a serial killer, so the whole thing is violent. Although you dont see any of the crimes take place, the aftermath are very bloody and disgusting.A man is shown with bloodied hands from slicing off all his fingertips. We see a man lying dead in a big pool of bloodA man is shot in the head and then is given many other post-mortum shots to his body. This is shown on-screen.The sins are as follows:Gluttony: An obese man is forced to eat, and eat, and eat. Once his stomach is full enough, the killer kicks him in the side, causing his stomach to burst. You see the man's dead and rotting body sitting at a table (his feet tied with barbed wire) with his face in food.Greed: A lawyer is murdered. You don't see the body, but blood is seen on the floor of the crime scene.Sloth: A man is strapped to a bed, where he lay for a year. His body was rotting away, even though he is still alive.Lust: A man is forced to murder a prostitute by raping her with a razor-bladed dildo. Nothing explicit is shown; it is all implied. The man forced to commit the act does describe the incident.Pride: A woman has her nose cut off. She has the choice of either living by calling for help on the phone glued to her hand, or by committing suicide by overdosing on the drugs glued to her other hand. In her pride, she commits suicide. She is shown laying in a bed, with blood everywhere.Envy: John Doe goes and kills Mills wife by cutting her head off. He said that he was envious of Mills' life, so he decided to destroy it. The head is never seen; only a little bit of blood on the box it was in.Wrath: Mills, in his wrath, shoots John Doe in the head. No graphic blood is shown, but you do see Doe being shot from a small distance. We do see a brief blood splatter from his head but nothing serious
Profanity: 7The 'f' word and its derivitives are said 87 times, many blasphemies are uttered, and numerous other profanities too. Most of the F-words come Brad Pitt.
Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: 3There are scenes of people drinking in a civilized way
Frightening/Intense Scenes: 6Once again, the movie is about a serial killer, the whole movie carries a dark, menacing atmosphere. All the above crimes are very disturbing. One of the men they find in his apartment strapped to a bed appears dead, and much into the scene he wakes up and starts coughing the officers face. It has a huge startle factor. When the cops enter the killers home they find several disturbing 'soveiners' in his house, ie a hand and fingers. They also find several photos of him killing his victims. This is a VERY disturbing film.An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. Indiana Jones), 20-25 is going to pretty darn adult (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone under 17 (i.e. THIS); 30-40 is going to be an absolutely, positively adults-only film (i.e. Saving Private Ryan) and if a movie has ever gone past 40, then I haven't heard of it.Total Explicit Content Estimation: 26/50.
