Although Dodi Fayed dabbled in filmmaking and received producers credits in films like Hook (1991) and Scarlet Letter, The (1995), his reputation for writing bad checks harmed him in the film industry, Daily Variety reported today (Monday) in article written by editor-in-chief Peter Bart Bart said that Fayed always rented expensive houses locally but was dogged by landlords who said he hadn't paid. An unnamed "important producer" told Bart, "Dodi was a deadbeat, a bad guy." In a separate report from the Telluride Film Festival, Variety reported that the accident in which Princess Diana, Al Fayed and their driver died turned out to be a larger topic of discussion than any of the films being shown there.
