Gorey: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey Written and directed by Travis Russ Presented by Life Jacket Theatre Company, Here, NYC April 30-May 22, 2016

If you’ve ever watched the opening of the long-running PBS anthology series Mystery!, then you’ve seen the art of Edward Gorey. If you haven’t, well, he is not the most mainstream of artists, though perhaps the mainstream has edged closer to his sensibility in our post-Tim Burton, post-Hot Topic world. Gorey: The Secret Lives of Edward Gorey, a new play by Travis Russ, does not walk the audience through Gorey’s greatest hits in common biographical narrative fashion (so if you are unfamiliar with his work, do yourself a favor and look into it on your own). Danny Boyle Might Direct An Adaptation of The Musical Miss Saigon

From Apple to the Vietnam War, Steve Jobs director Danny Boyle is in early talks to direct an adaption of the acclaimed musical Miss Saigon, which focuses on the star-crossed romance of an American GI and a Vietnamese bargirl in the Vietnam War.

The original Broadway musical opened in 1991 (two years after its 1989 debut in London) and updated the classic Opera Madame Butterfly into the modern Vietnam setting. During its premiere in ’91 the show earned ten Tony nominations and won three of them.

Last December it was reported that the entire original cast was »

Danny Boyle In Talks For "Miss Saigon" Film

Coming off the success of "Steve Jobs," filmmaker Danny Boyle is reportedly in talks to direct a film adaptation of the classic stage musical "Miss Saigon" at Working Title says The Daily Mail.

A re-working of Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, the story follows the relationship between an American GI and Vietnamese bargirl during the Vietnam War in Saigon in the 1970s. Premiering in 1989 in London, it ran for ten years and closed after four thousand performances.

Who has penned the screenplay hasn't been made clear, but the project is said to be moving along fast with the "Les Miserables" film team of Cameron Mackintosh, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner set to produce. At one time Lee Daniels was attached to direct, but that's not the case anymore.

Boyle confirmed today on Facebook that he's currently in Edinburgh researching "Trainspotting 2" ahead of a May shoot, and has the FX series "Trust" in the works. »
