Movies Forgotten In Time: I Come In Peace

25 December 2009 2:36 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Five years after his now legendary performance as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Dolph Lundgren was enjoying considerable success having starred in a trio of films that include Red Scorpion, (the original) The Punisher and as popular toy figure He-Man in Masters of the Universe. The films ranged from okay to just plain awful, but Lundgren had an onscreen presence that was more than just his six foot five frame. The guy had personality and for a native of Stockholm, Sweden, he could easily adopt an American accent. The nineties saw Lundgren in a string of action films that included Showdown in Little Tokyo with the late Brandon Lee, Universal Soldier with Jean-Claude Van Damme and the Keanu Reeves vehicle Johnny Mnemonic which to this day remains Ludgren's last film that had an American theatrical release. By the close of the decade Lundgren's films were only released straight to video sin the U. »

French Version of Inception Trailer Arrives Online

23 December 2009 8:16 AM, PST | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

It is no secret that the next trailer for Chris Nolan’s Inception will be attached to Sherlock Holmes on its opening on Christmas. That being said MakingOf has gotten a French version of the trailer. I saw a translation of the dialog in Fs.Net’s comment section so I am posting it here, so that you will no what is being said in the trailer.

“Leo’s character is explaining that an idea can have enormous power. It has the power to build cities, an idea can transform the world and rewrite the rules and thats why he needs to get a hold of it. The antagonist is hiding something and Leo”s character needs to figure out what it is and therefore go to the root (inception) of the idea of the crime. Here is the translation of the words written: Votre esprit= Your mind est la »

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: December 6, 2009

6 December 2009 8:33 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

It’s Sunday and that means that it’s Wrap Up time.

This week:

The box office is Blind Sided; if you go down to the woods today you might see Tom Cavanagh in Yogi Bear; Leonardo DiCaprio knows Jack Frost in The Guardians; Have you ever heard Gun, With Occasional Music? Beautiful Creatures say P.S I Love You; John Madden will Dolittle directing with My Fair Lady and it’s all in the double barrel name as Paul Thomas Anderson and Philip Seymour Hoffman find religion.

Box Office

Sandra Bullock’s The Blind Side just keeps doing better and better. The uplifting sports drama has took the top spot with an impressive $20 million after three weeks on the charts. 2009 has been a great year for Bullock and if Warner Bros. gives the actress the expected Oscar push then 2010 shouldn’t be too bad either.

Happy Birthday, Dolph Lundgren!

3 November 2009 6:22 AM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

As I am sure Scott (aka, Dolph Fanboy #1) is still sound asleep (slacker) I will personally offer this announcement on behalf of all the movie geeks…

1957 – A little boy was born 52 years ago on this day in Stockholm, Sweden named Dolph Lundgren. This little boy would grow up to become the muscle icon and action star we know today. Dolph has appeared in 39 films, including some currently in production, and has won our applause as He-Man, Capt. Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and memorable roles in The Punisher, Showdown In Little Tokyo, Universal Soldier, Johnny Mnemonic and a slew of other hard-hitting action films in which he was the star. Happy Birthday to you, Mr. Lundgren, and may you continue to grace our direct-toDVD shelves for years to come!

Sleepwalkers (DVD Review)

19 September 2009 8:16 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Every now and then I trip over a film so incredibly quirky I have difficulty deciding if I enjoy the picture, or loathe it. Stephen King’S Sleepwalkers is the perfect example of the type of movie I’m referencing. It’s hideously taboo, cheesy and completely devoid of any form of logic. And yet, I have trouble refraining from watching the picture at least once a year or so. Does that make it a good flick? Not necessarily. However, I’m not so quick to brand this one the utter failure that so many critics have eagerly done.

Sure this tale of life draining incestuous shape-shifters is wrong on plenty of levels, but there are some great moments that really sway my negative views quite a bit. For starters, Madchen Amick is adorable as Tanya Robertson, a spunky high schooler that the shape-shifting Charles Brady (Brian Krause) immediately sets his sights on. »

Gamer Movie Review

6 September 2009 11:46 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Gamer” suffers from a fundamental paradox (beyond the usual one of rational people agreeing to be a part of such blithering idiocy) that has destroyed many a dystopic science fiction film before it. It posits a future where real human beings have replaced Vr constructs in video games: feeding our collective inhumanity by allowing us to control another person like a puppet. Then, having established that society as a whole is the source of the problem, it provides a single evil mastermind at the heart of it all, implying that if we just eliminate the one bad apple, everything will be fine. That crushes the social commentary beneath simplistic clichés, old as dirt decades ago and showing little improvement with age. Gamer indulges in them to its supreme detriment, along with a number of other dippy concepts it can’t hope to support…read more [Mania.com]

William Gibson’s Neuromancer Cast News

12 May 2009 10:40 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

William Gibson is a Sci-Fi stud. He’s great. There, I got that off my chest. He has had some terrible luck with movie adaptations of his work. Johnny Mnemonic was troublesome to say the least. He has had his great novel “Neuromancer” in development since the dawn of time and so far,  people have been chickening out of making it. Now however, we seem to have a cast. Liv Tyler is the latest to join Hayden Christiansen in the Joseph Kahn directed story of an Artificial Intelligence that yearns to be free and of the cyber jockey that is paid to free it. Can’t say much for the cast. This story deserves better. Can you reboot a movie before the original is released? Thanks QuietEarth for the news. »

'Crackle' is a Movie Geek's New Best Friend

4 May 2009 2:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If you're anything like the Cinematical staffers, you're spending a frightening amount of time in front of your laptop watching free movies on Hulu, Netflix Instant, and YouTube. Now you'll have a new site to feed your addiction: Sony's Crackle.

Crackle has been running for awhile now, and offering some pretty cool original content like Ed Brubacker's Angel of Death series, starring the kick-ass Zoe Bell. But now they're expanding their full-length movie offerings, and according to Variety you can now watch: Spider-Man 2, Groundhog Day, Stripes, A Few Good Men, 1941, El Mariachi, Big Fish, The Fan, La Bamba, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Johnny Mnemonic, La Femme Nikita and a few Godzilla installments. I haven't watched a movie all the way through yet, but I clicked on Spider-Man 2 and played around with it for a few minutes. The quality is excellent, and I believe they run without commercials, »

Keanu in Bebop

15 January 2009 6:55 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

With turns in the Matrix trilogy, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Constantine, the Bill And Ted films, The Devil's Advocate, A Scanner Darkly and Johnny Mnemonic, one would think that Keanu Reeves is just so done with all the fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural stuff. But apparently this guy's a masochist and needs/seeks the ever-elusive approval of fanboys, somehow, some way. His latest attempt will be as Spike Spiegel, the adventurous bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071 in Cowboy »
