The VHS for this film came with an infomercial for helping get donations to relocate the star orca Keiko back to the ocean. It included interviews from the stars of the film, the owners of the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and information on the "Free Willy Keiko Adoption Kit" which came with a Free Willy poster, stickers, a newsletter containing information on how Keiko was being rehabilitated, and a replica of the necklace that Jesse wears in this film. The kit only cost $24.99, and many people all over the world had donated. Soon after rehabilitation, Keiko was freed in the same area in Norway where he was assumed to first be captured. See more
When Jesse, Nadine and Elvis sets out in the boat towards the end of the movie, following Willy and the other Orcas, it's daylight. When the helicopter arrives to rescue them from the burning oil, it's suddenly dark out. It wouldn't take the rescue helicopter several hours to either locate or rescue them, so it couldn't have been evening/late at night. See more
