Mickey Gordon is a basketball referee who travels to France to bury his father. Ellen Andrews is an American living in Paris who works for the airline he flies on. Like what happens in the movie, Billy Crystal and his wife Janice were hanging out in a restaurant with friends when they got the idea for the film. They were reliving funny moments and talking about the realities of marriage (after the honeymoon is over).
