Mickey Gordon is a basketball referee who travels to France to bury his father. Ellen Andrews, an American living in Paris, works for the airline Mickey flies on. They meet and fall in love, but their relationship goes through many difficult patches. The story is told in flashback by their friends at a restaurant waiting for them to arrive. Written by

Like what happens in the movie, Billy Crystal and his wife Janice were hanging out in a restaurant with friends when they got the idea for the film. They were reliving funny moments and talking about the realities of marriage (after the honeymoon is over). The last basketball game before the end, where Mickey is officiating whilst his friends wait for him at the restaurant, is made to seem to happen in LA. But in the shots of the game floor, the NY Knicks and Madison Square logo is clearly emblazoned on the hardwood. See more
