The dying rooms is a short documentary film that looks closely at orphanages in China and the treatment of babies and toddlers in such. It argues that due to the one child policy and a cultural emphasis on men, and thus a desire for a son, many infants are drowned, abandoned, or placed in orphanages, many of which are female. In addition, treatment inside orphanages is completely inhumane and grotesque; the worst feature of all being the dying rooms themselves, in which infants are left in complete isolation until they die.
