Yes, this was the one that helped start it all! This was shown on "The What A Cartoon Show!" and it was brilliant. It follows a little mini-adventure of Courage, the dog with the highest sense of cowardice who gets enough guts to take on an evil chicken from outer space to save his owners, Muriel and Eustace from great peril. You'll see what I mean. Even though it's a cartoon, it still gives me chills. I remember watching it as a kid and I was a bit uneasy because there is an excellent use of music. Sforzando beats help give the "Oh my!" feeling that surrounds this little short. Heavy bass and the strings of cellos help provide the short with its eeriness. "Courage the Cowardly Dog" was a fantastic show and it's all thanks to this little piece of art! This was nominated for an Oscar as "Best Animated Short" and it would have been great if it had won! You hear rumors that John R. Dilworth was not happy with the idea of starting a show off of his short, but when he did take the job (the show ran from 1999-2002) he handled the show beautifully as it, in my opinion was certainly one of the best cartoons shown on televisionit is an adult's show disguised as a kid's show and it is masked beautifully. I highly recommend people to watch this and then try to catch some of the "Courage" episodes as they were truly brilliant: brilliantly scored, brilliantly voiced and brilliantly and artfully drawn, which I must say was a bit of an improvement off of this, though if the B-film artsy elements were kept it would have made the show a little bit more tense and creepy.Highly recommended.
