Babe Star Criticizes TV Pig Killing

The killing of a wild pig on CBS' ratings behemoth Survivor: The Australian Outback has prompted outcries from animal rights groups, environmental groups, and now Farmer Hoggett. People reports that James Cromwell, nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Babe, sent a scathing letter to CBS Entertainment president Nancy Tellem, claiming to be "appalled at the clumsy and grotesque slaughter of several chickens and a wild pig" during the run of the series. Answering CBS's claims that people have traditionally killed animals to survive, Cromwell countered with, "These were not the desperate actions of a person truly struggling to survive, but the calculated action of a contestant on an entertainment program." The letter was made public by the Humane Society. »
