In honor of its 20th anniversary, the Visual Effects Society polled its membership to list the 70 most influential VFX films of all time. James Cameron led the pack with six entries (“The Abyss,” “Aliens,” “Avatar,” “Terminator,” “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” and “Titanic”); Steven Spielberg followed close behind with five (“Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “E.T. the Extraterrestrial,” “Jaws,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and “Jurassic Park”); and Peter Jackson had four Oscar winners (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and “King Kong”).

“The Ves 70 represents films that have had a significant, lasting impact on the practice and appreciation of visual effects as an integral element of cinematic expression and storytelling,” said Ves board chair Mike Chambers. “We see this as an important opportunity for our members, leading visual effects practitioners worldwide, to pay homage to our heritage and help shape the future of the global visual effects community. James Cromwell Arrested After Protesting at SeaWorld: 'Orcas Deserve a Full Life'

James Cromwell is at it again.

The outspoken actor and activist, 77, was arrested on Monday after leading a group of PETA supporters in a staged protest of SeaWorld San Diego’s “Orca Encounter” show, according to a statement from the animal rights organization.

“Orcas deserve a full life in the ocean, not a life sentence of swimming endless circles until they drop dead from disease,” Cromwell said in the statement. “My friends at PETA and I want SeaWorld to move these intelligent animals to seaside sanctuaries without delay.”

Studiocanal Revs Up Production, Including Idris Elba’s Directorial Debut (Exclusive)

Studiocanal, already Europe’s biggest film and TV producer and distributor, is doubling down on production.

With projects like Idris Elba’s directorial debut “Yardie,” a new adaptation of children’s classic “The Secret Garden” and a film about Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved corgis, the studio expects to have 10 or 11 international English-language movies in production this year, chairman and CEO Didier Lupfer told Variety.

The Vivendi-owned powerhouse also plans to produce 40 movies out of France, Germany and Britain by 2018, and 180 hours of TV in 2020, up from the 60 hours that it produced or distributed last year.

“Over the past 18 months, there was a focus on a wave of development. With production beginning soon in London on Universal's highly-anticipated Jurassic World 2, the cast continues to be filled out. Oscar nominated actor and Emmy winner James Cromwell has signed on for an unspecified role in this action-packed sequel. Much like all of the other new cast members, no details have been given for the character James Cromwell is playing, but he'll join Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Bd Wong, who return as Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, respectively.

Earlier this week, producer Frank Marshall revealed a photo from his new office, hinting that production has begun on this sequel. James Cromwell Joins Universal’s ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel

James Cromwell, currently starring in HBO’s “The Young Pope,” has been cast in Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s “Jurassic World” sequel.

The studio is keeping details about Cromwell’s character information under wraps. “Jurassic World” generated $1.67 billion worldwide in 2015 — the fourth-best grosser of all time, trailing only “Avatar,” “Titanic” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran actor James Cromwell has joined the cast of the Jurassic World sequel. There are currently no details on the role he will play.

Cromwell is known for work on television shows like Halt and Catch Fire, Boardwalk Empire and American Horror Story and for films such as Babe, L.A. Confidential and The Green Mile.

The Jurassic World sequel is being directed by J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls), based on a script by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow (Star Wars: Episode IX, Jurassic World).  Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Passengers) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Spiderman 3, The Help) reprise their roles as Owen and Claire while new additions include Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Rafe Spall (Black Mirror), Justice Smith (The Get Down), Ted Levine (Silence of the Lambs) and Daniella Pineda (The Detour).
