Greatest Horror Movies Ever Made: Part 2: Blood Thirsty Vampires

4 October 2011 11:24 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Note: This is the second article in this series of posts. Click here to see the first entry.

Every year I spend the majority of the month of October watching as many horror movies as I possibly can. So I decided to take it upon myself to list off the greatest horror movies ever made. I felt the need to break up the list into several categories. You see, usually when people ask me for recommendations of what horror films they should see, they still have some idea of what sub genre they are interested in watching. So as appose to having one big jumbled list, I’ve broken it down to help with those looking for recommendations in a specific area. Please Note: by the end of the month, the last entry in this series will include a list of what I think are without a doubt, the 31 greatest horror movies ever made. »

Sitges 2011: "Noves Visions" Section Films Announced

24 August 2011 11:32 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The 2011 Sitges Film Festival, held 6-16 October on the Catalan coast of Spain, has released information on the films that will comprise the fest's "Noves Visions" section, which promises to be a category dedicated to the most innovative and transgressive approaches. Several genre films are represented, and we have the full rundown here.

The films are divided into four categories, three of which can be found below. We're including all the films in these three sections as even if some aren't pure horror, they sound intriguing enough to be of interest to genre fans. The fourth category is comprised solely of documentaries. Be sure to visit the official Sitges Film Festival website for full details on "Noves Visions" and more!

Interview: Michael Imperioli, director of The Hungry Ghosts

31 March 2011 10:55 AM, PDT | Disc Dish | See recent Disc Dish news »

Earlier today, Disc Dish had a chance to speak with Michael Imperioli (The Lovely Bones)—late of TV’s The Sopranos and Life on Mars and currently keeping the streets of urban Michigan safe in Detroit 1-8-7– about his film 2009 The Hungry Ghosts, which is available on DVD from Virgil Films and is currently streaming on Hulu.com.

Written and directed by Imperioli, the movie follows 36 hours in the lives of a group of spiritually bereft New Yorkers including, among others, a hard-living New York City call-in radio show host (Steven Schirripa, Open Season 3), his high-voltage wife (Sharon Angela, TV’s The Sopranos) and a grungy downtown gabber just out of rehab (Nick Sandow, Frame of Mind). Oh, and there’s also a lot of cocaine, booze, gambling, stripping and sex.

The Hungry Ghosts is a horrible descent into the urban maelstrom for some, another typical Tuesday night for others, »
