It was intended that the series would return for a sixth season, which is why the show ended on a cliffhanger.

The device used to activate the wormholes to enable sliding is an old modified Motorola cellphone, the MicroTAC. The new device acquired to slide in season 3 appears to be a common TV remote control. The device used for sliding in "Exodus" parts I and II is a modified Sega Genesis controller.

Clinton Derricks-Carroll, the identical twin brother of Cleavant Derricks, played his character Rembrandt's alter ego in Sliders: The King Is Back (1995), Sliders: Greatfellas (1996), and Sliders: The Prince of Slides (1996). In their two second-season appearances together, more makeup was used to cause virtually no audience member to be able to tell them apart. Both times, Clevant and Clinton actually swapped roles during the final scenes, and no one was aware that Clinton was the one playing the REmbrandt who slid with the other main characters.

Even though the production of the show went on continuously between season 3 and season 4, it had a year hiatus from airing when it was dropped by Fox and picked up by Sci-Fi, making the airing years (1995-1997, 1998-2000). The special effects in the fourth season take a very noticeable dive in quality, as the series had just been canceled by Fox before being resurrected by the Sci-Fi Channel, which left the show with an overall lower production budget.

The final season includes two notable actors from Babylon 5 (1994), which ended its run about a year before 'Sliders (1995)'. The recurring character of Dr. Oberon Geiger is portrayed by Peter Jurasik, who was, under heavy makeup, Londo Mollari in B5. Then in 'Strangers and Comrades', Jerry Doyle portrays Sgt. Vernon Larson. Doyle, of course, was Security Chief Michael Garibaldi through most of the run of B5.

Jerry O'Connell (Quinn) wrote an episode treatment entitled "Narcotica", which took place on an Earth where drugs had been legalized. The story was rejected by the network for being "too dark", but later found life as a 'Sliders' comic book.

The Mallory brothers are named Colin and Quinn; Kari Wuhrer co-starred with Colin Quinn on Remote Control (1987). It is unclear whether this is an in-joke or purely coincidental.
