Heroes Being Renewed After All?

8 December 2009 11:03 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Please, NBC, I can't handle this emotional roller-coaster you have me on.  One week Heroes is great, the next week it sucks, then one of my favorite under-utilized Heroes actors Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder) is cast on Doctor Who's David Tennant's new show (David Tennant doing a show for Us prime-time?!  For. The. Win), now he's off because – apparently -  he'll be needed for the next season of Heroes.  And here I thought NBC had finally had enough abuse and had removed the feeding tube.  If Heroes is not in the television equivalent of a persistent vegetative state, I don't know of a better example.

So here is what is going on.  Kristin from E! is hinting at some inside info from the Heroes camp that Sendhil was yanked back to Heroes because the show is going to continue for another season.  The only way this could possibly be »

'Doctor Who' meets 'Sliders' as Jerry O'Connell cast in David Tennant's new pilot

8 December 2009 4:19 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The explorer of alternate universes is about to meet the last Time Lord.

Jerry O'Connell, best known to genre fans as Quinn Mallory in Sliders, will co-star opposite Doctor Who's David Tennant in the pilot of NBC's dramedy Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, replacing Sendhil Ramamurthy just days after he was cast in the role. (Ramamurthy, who also stars on NBC's Heroes, stepped aside because of scheduling conflicts.)

According to Cynopsis, O'Connell will play an ambitious though good-natured lawyer who was used to playing second fiddle to Rex (David Tennant) until Rex's career changes. O'Connell's character also falls in love with Rex's fiance. The pilot has also cast Lindsey Kraft to play Rex's assistant and Cleo King as a practical-minded private school bus driver.

And the fan-fiction crossovers are starting on LiveJournal right... now. »

Re-examining The Burning (1981)

7 September 2009 4:02 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Can you say Friday The 13th rip-off? Good, your understanding of the English language is at least sufficient (that‘s my pretend pretentiousness emerging). Now move on from that notion, because while The Burning was clearly inspired by Friday, it’s got some fantastic elements that enable the picture to stand firm on it’s own accord. First off, the “rules” of a slasher are treated with great liberty here. Neither writer Harvey Weinstein nor writer/director Tony Maylam restrict their script maneuvers by insisting upon following the beaten path. Second, the cast is absolutely terrific, showcasing an array of actors and actresses who would go on to build highly successful careers. Third, Tom Savini is on board for the special effects… need I say more on that topic? Add it all up and the result is a kick ass slasher film that could very easily be considered superior to Friday The 13th, »

Bloody set pics from Piranha 3-D

31 May 2009 6:19 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Those crazy paparazzi over at Splash News have been hitting the film sets hard lately, and none is more apparent than the Arizona set of Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) remake of Piranha.

The site has snagged several shots of stars Kelly Brook (Duece Bigalo: European Gigolo) and Jerry O'Connell (Obsessed, Sliders). See the gore, and the speedo after the jump!

In Lake Victoria Arizona, a tremor causes the lake's floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas... Theyre back! Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for a single, wild weekend - the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. Lake Victoria sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, »

Jerry O'Connell Joins "Piranha 3-D" Cast

7 May 2009 9:41 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Jerry O'Connell is the latest to join The Weinstein Company's film remake "Piranha 3-D." Alexander Aja has recruited the former "Sliders" star to join his already impressive line-up, EW reports.

The project is a remake of the 1978 horror film in 3-D. Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunstan and Chuck Russell is co-writing the script with Aja, who is also the producer and the director.

The story will be set around Lake Victoria in the mid-West when an underwater tremor releases schools of the prehistoric flesh-eating fish.

Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Ving Rhames and Richard Dreyfuss have been previously announced as cast. Release date is slated on March 19, 2010.
