Trivia

The filming of episode 5.1 "Bill Moves On" (the first episode filmed after Phil Hartman's death) had to stop several times due to the cast members crying.
The cast of NewsRadio was banned from the SAG Awards after one appearance because of their bad behavior. They took their shoes off, stole wine off of the other tables and Andy Dick allegedly asked for Helen Hunt's autograph on his penis.
Maura Tierney was added to the cast the day before they shot the pilot.
The show was on brink of cancellation every season that it was on.
In the final season, a picture of the late Phil Hartman can be found in Dave Nelson's office.
Jon Lovitz has appeared as three different characters:
  • A guest appearance as a mental patient who befriends Bill McNeal

  • A guest appearance as a suicidal man perched on the ledge outside Dave's window

  • As Max Lewis, a radio DJ who had several dozen jobs in his past, but was hired to replace the late Bill McNeal largely because he had once worked alongside him. Lovitz said that he took the role to honor the memory of his good friend, the late Phil Hartman. Andy Dick reportedly treated Lovitz badly during his regular season on the show, but the rest of the cast praised Lovitz for stepping into a terrible situation and doing well.

Ray Romano was originally cast in the handyman role.
In episode 3.22 "The Real Deal" Jerry Seinfeld is saying Phil instead of Bill when he is talking to Bill McNeal. Bill is played by 'Phil Hartman'.
Throughout the show's five year run, we never find out Beth's last name. In the final season, when asked, Beth states she has no last name.

In the pilot episode, the role of Catherine Duke was played by Ella Joyce. In all later episodes, the role was played by Khandi Alexander.
During the credits, Dave Foley's name is shown over a shot of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The towers were nicknamed David and Nelson. Foley's character is named Dave Nelson. According to Paul Simms, the shows creator, this is just a coincidence.
Dave Foley, Andy Dick and Stephen Root are the only cast members to appear in all 97 episodes of the series.
Maura Tierney, Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Vicki Lewis and Andy Dick are the only five cast members to appear in both the pilot and the series finale. Joe Rogan did not appear in the pilot as the character of Joe was played by a different actor and was named Rick.
