Hip-hop veteran hailed by peers, including LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj, collapsed with breathing problems and died in hospital

Rapper and actor Heavy D, one of the defining voices of hip-hop's late-80s and early-90s golden age, has died. The 44-year-old was taken to hospital with breathing problems, just hours after he wrote to his followers on Twitter, "Be Inspired!"

Paramedics arrived at Heavy D's Beverly Hills condo at around noon on Tuesday, after receiving a 911 call from a neighbour. The rapper was conscious and talking, but had collapsed after returning home from a shopping trip. Top boy: stories of Hackney's young drug dealers

9 October 2011 1:09 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Ronan Bennett spent two years interviewing gang members in east London for his powerfully personal TV drama, Top Boy. Here he describes their hidden, hopeless world – and the lengths they'll go to escape from it

Nathan is 19. He's mixed race, tall, slim and fit. He has a No 1 haircut and is dressed in a T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and trainers. He has a silver chain round his neck. His mobile rings. He speaks quickly: "Four on four, cuz, yeah… Wait a second." He asks how much longer we're going to be. Maybe another 30 minutes. We're sitting at a table outside a café on Mare Street, next to Hackney Town Hall. I sip my drink. "Thirty minutes," he says and ends the call. He looks at me, a slow look, unemphatic. "Customer." What's four on four, I ask. "He wants four 10-bags of dubs and four 10-bags of B." Dubs? B? "Dubs »

'Run Bitch Run' Movie Review

5 October 2011 9:10 PM, PDT | MoreHorror | See recent MoreHorror news »

by Michael Sieber,

Pure exploitation trash with a veneer of style.

Catholic schoolgirls, Rebecca (Christina DeRosa) and the virginal Catherine (Cheryl Lyone) are selling bibles door to door to raise money for school when they knock on the door of the wrong house at the wrong time.

In the house is gang leader and pimp, Lobo, played by Peter Tahoe who has just shot and killed one of his ‘girls’ for stealing his drugs. Lobo and his gang kidnap the girls, and Rebecca is killed while being forced to play Russian roulette. Catherine is then taken out to the woods where she is raped and left for dead.

Naked, she eventually stumbles onto the highway where she is picked up by a passing motorist and taken to a hospital. Soon she recovers, and feels compelled to exact her revenge on her assailants.

Snoop Dogg's sitcom goes to NBC

5 October 2011 3:51 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The network that was once home to sitcoms starring Will Smith and LL Cool J is hoping to turn Snoop Dogg into a comedy lead as well.

NBC has bought a pitch from Snoop and producer Don Reo ("My Wife and Kids"), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Snoop Dogg will star as the father of a group of unruly kids and also serve as a producer.

The premise sounds a little different than the idea we came up with when the project was first announced: A show called "What It Do, Nephew," in which he takes in his brother or sister's son. But that's Ok.

Snoop Dogg has a pretty sizable acting resume, including starring roles in "The Wash" and "Soul Plane" and several sitcom guest appearances, including two episodes of "Brothers" (which Reo executive produced) in the 2009-10 season. He also starred in the E! reality series "Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, »

Heidi Stephens tunes in for the reality show's return on Channel 5 – with Amy Childs, Kerry Katona and Jedward appearing

Good evening, and welcome to the Celebrity Big Brother launch night liveblog! Barely a year ago we tearfully waved Big Brother goodbye in an drawn-out fanfare of trumpets and nose-blowing, but now it's Back. On Channel 5. Presented by a very excitable Brian Dowling. And allegedly featuring both halves of Jedward. For Three Weeks.

Lord have mercy on our tortured, reality TV-diminished souls.

I'll be here from 9pm to give you all the lowdown on the new housemates – mainly this will involve me going "Um, Who?", then quickly chucking in a few random facts blagged from the internet. If I'm lucky, the lovely Ladyribenaberet might email me some useful insight from you guys in the comment box, thus making it a universal, crowd-sourced cry of "Who? Really? For The Love Of Davina, »

On a snowy Wednesday evening in February, the main attraction on the marquee at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg, Virginia, was True Grit, the Coen Brothers' bloody homage to the shoot-'em-up Westerns of Hollywood's Golden Age. But the movie playing inside had a very different message to send.

Point/Counterpoint: Is Guy Fieri Terrible?

22 February 2011 11:25 AM, PST | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

It’s an important question I’ve wrestled with for quite some time now: Is Guy Fieri terrible, or just, like, ok? In an attempt to provide some therapeutic closure for myself, I’ll present both halves of the argument in my head below — please leave your verdicts and further explanations in the comments. Point: Guy Fieri Is Not Terrible My friend Kevin summed up Guy Fieri’s existence pretty perfectly, saying, “You know how some novelty diners will have, like, an alligator in sunglasses inside a pink Cadillac that’s made to look like it’s crashed through the wall? Guy Fieri is that alligator come to life.” His existence is absurd, sure, but he’s generally harmless. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is one of my favorite standby “throw it on whenever” shows, and I’ve never minded Guy Fieri as the host. A number of my friends rip »

Lionel Logue and the king | Ian Jack

Their friendship was more formal than in The King's Speech, but remarkable nevertheless

When we came home last Sunday from The King's Speech we began to talk about the House of Windsor and all we'd forgotten about it or never knew.

"So how many brothers did George VI actually have?"

"Well, there's Edward the Abdicator and there's the other one mentioned in the film – John, the one we never used to hear about, who had epilepsy and died young. And then there's a couple of dukes, Kent, the one who died in the air crash, and the other one – Norfolk?"

"You mean Gloucester," my wife said, and so I did. Norfolk is the Catholic duke who lives in Arundel; he has nothing to do with it. "But George VI had a sister, too. A total of five brothers and a sister is what I remember."

"Princess Marina?"

"No, I think Marina married Kent. »
