In this quasi-mythological costume series, Hercules (in Greek Herakles), the noble bastard son of Zeus, hence hated to death by his step-mother Hera, doesn't live as an Olympian after accomplishing his Works and the Argonauts' journey, as classical myth has it, but relinquishes immortality and continues to fight both human and supernatural evil on earth, as a wanderer in and beyond Greece, usually accompanied by his human side-kick Iolaus and sometimes by dodgy Salmoneus. Countless are the challenges, either especially set up by Hera or just on his way, but he always triumphs against all odds, delivers otherwise often hopeless mortals and moves on to new adventures. A scene in an episode in which Hercules and Autolycus travel to the past, Autolycus (Bruce Campbell) has an argument with his younger self. The entire scene is played out exactly like a scene from Army of Darkness where Ash (Campbell) fights the Evil Ash (most of the dialogue is also the same). Series producer Sam Raimi directed that film. See more »
Quotes
Hercules:
Rumor has it that Otis stole it from a warlord who had stolen it from someone else.
Autolycus:
So much for honor among thieves; gives us all a bad name.

I was 5 when this came out, and I loved it from the start. I bought all the merch, from shirts to the videos to Kull The Conquerer just because Kevin Sorbo was in it. He was my hero when I was younger, and I really miss this show with a passion. All the characters were great, it had humor, some of the stuff is quite corny now but compared to today's TV, this was absolute gold. Every time I see an actor like Ted Raimi, Bruce Campbell or Kevin Sorbo (of course) I think of this masterpiece. I love Greek mythology and I thank this show for it. Sorbo isn't the best actor, but he fit that role so well, and I will always wish it back on TV.
