Stand-up comedian Jonathan Katz voices Professional Therapist Dr. Jonathan Katz. A divorced father, he has custody of his 23-year-old slacker son Ben, who dreams of wealth and freedom but is too lazy to find a real job. Dr. Katz's receptionist is the acerbic Laura. He spends his free time in the bar "Jacky's 33" with his friends Stan and Julie, the bartender. Most of Dr. Katz's patients are voiced by members of the stand-up comic fraternity. This gives them a chance to perform their routines in cartoon form. Written by

The roots of the show trace to an independent animated short about a psychiatrist and his son. Titled "Shrink Wrap", it was created by Tom Snyder
at his education-software company in Cambridge, Massachusetts before Snyder had anything at all to do with television. A friend in Los Angeles connected him with people in the industry, who were impressed enough with Shrink Wrap to want to develop it. They gave Snyder a list of experienced names in comedy as potential partners. One of them was Jonathan Katz
, who happened to be Snyder's all-time favorite stand-up comedian. See more
