There's a Writer for That New 'Nightmare on Elm Street'

Michael Bay recently told Entertainment Weekly they were still working on bringing the remake version of Nightmare on Elm Street together and it seems there is some movement as New Line has hirted Wesley Strick to pen the relaunch as Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund in all its previous incarnations), a serial child killer murdered who returns with a burned face and razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams will be brought back to "life". The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. The plan is to have a dark tone. The company hopes to have the movie ready for the 25th anniversary of the original. The move to create a "dark tone" is obviously a comment on how overly comical the slew of sequels became as the Nightmare films became more and more campy as time went on. »

New Nightmare Writer Hired

New Line is making its move to bring the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise back into the limelight. THR reports this morning that Doom and Wolf writer Wesley Strick has been brought on board to author the script that will re-invent Freddy Krueger for the 21st Century.

The trade reports the high school setting from the original will remain in place (of course), but the remake will delve deeper into the psychology of nightmares as well as Freddy Krueger himself. They also confirmed that the tone will be dark, so hopefully our new Freddy won’t be cracking wise every time he’s on screen.

The real question is: Who will that new Freddy Krueger be? If they’re going the Friday the 13th remake route, they won’t be bringing in anyone from the original series, which mean Englund is out. If they’re smart and realize that he »
