Surreal and hilarious

Author: bob the moo from United Kingdom

Recorded at the Albery Theatre one night in March 1994. Eddie Izzard delivers over 70 minutes of scatological material to a sold out crowd. He covers everything from films, Star Trek, cats, shopping and supermarkets.

Back in 1994 Izzard was still of the mind that comedy should not be made for TV – in fact it was rare for any of his live shows to be put on TV. To this day he hasn't been tempted to make a sitcom in the same way as other standups of his generation have (Lee Evans' `so what now' shows he was right!).

This show is a perfect example of Eddie at his best – his mind going in a million different directions but being held in place by his original script, his ideas surprising and delighting the audience. It may not hold up to repeated viewings, but it's still very funny while it's fresh.. Izzard is a transvestite but this isn't his show – in fact it barely matters after the first 30 seconds.

You can see the influence of Monty Python and The Goons in his work – his surreal thought process is straight from Milligan himself (RIP). In terms of stand up shows this video shows that Eddie Izzard deserves his place as one of the best – and for not cheaply taking his comedy into the first TV sitcom that came begging, he deserves all our respect. Hilarious.

ive seen 4 of the 5 Eddie Izzard videos , in the wrong order , dressed to kill was the first , and the further back in time i went the funnier it was, this one is on par with definite article , because there is that sign of madness in him in both of them , especially where he seems to think up an episode of star trek at the end of his act. from the main charachters kirk spock uhura etc. to the guy who beams down with them called steve from accounts, and the functions of kirks stun gun which are hilarious ranging from "bit of a cough" to "ice cream van nearby".

one of the best shows, from the best stand-up-comedian

well not much to tell about this show or overall about Eddie Izzard except that it's (he's) "unrepeatable" i must say that even after seeing a lot of British (Lee Evans, Billy Connolly, etc..) -->they are the better ones, and a lot of us comedians, Eddie Izzard is still the best one to date, his jokes, his way of thinking is unique, crazy, interesting, clever, and extremely funny, and you can watch over and over again as many times as you wish and it'll still be funny... believe me, go on and watch it now!!! you won't regret it, and even if you're in to some other kind of comedy, i do think you'll still like it!

and also watch the other ones as well!!! (dressed to kill, glorious, definite article, circle ...) won't regret too :))

Eddie is simply the best!

Should carry a health warning! Very funny

Author: John Taylor ( from Bedfordshire, England
28 May 2000

Eddie Izzard has to be one of if not the best English stand up comedian.I say English and not British because i class Billy Connolly as the best british comedian. Mr Izzard is extremly funny and has a unique way of telling stories which almost always make you laugh. He could read a telephone directory out aloud and he would make it sound funny. This stage show covers a multitude of subjects from Tranvestites( of which he is one) to wasps and bees and Star trek to cats. I would defy anybody not to laugh. I'm going out first thing tommorow to buy more Eddie Izzard videos. 8 out of 10

One of the funniest stand-up shows

Eddie Izzard is one of the funniest comedians about at the moment. I must have seen this show half a dozen times and every time is just as funny as the last.
