It was Rutger Hauer's idea that Burns ride a Kawasaki twin-cylinder 650 motorcycle. Hauer owned one of these bikes himself and felt that by riding one in the movie his character would stand out as a leader of the hunting pack. He also claimed that the bike had the appearance of an iron horse, giving Burns the look of a warrior knight.
Almost all of the scenes that are depicted in the "city" are filmed within a two block area in downtown Wenatchee, Washington. The area filmed was in a two block perimeter of Mission, Orondo, Palouse and Columbia streets with the majority of the film scenes in the alley way behind the Liberty Theater off of Mission St. This area also includes the infamous Bruce Hotel which is still there today; however it has not been a hotel since the early 2000 and is now Bruce Transitional Housing for the homeless.
Despite the ending of the movie taking place in Seattle for some reason the production filmed and used an establishing shot of Philadelphia from the vantage point of the South Street Bridge. Several key identifiable landmarks are visible in this shot and there is obviously nothing resembling a Space Needle to even vaguely pass it off as the intended location. Why they did this exactly has never been revealed.
The address of Hell's Canyon Outfitters as detailed on the business card that Cole hands Mason is 1 5th Ave, Seattle. In real life there is no such address and the starting point of 5th Avenue is a section of monorail track. The phone number is apparently (206) 555-2829. The actual location is an office building on Orondo Street in Wenatchee, Washington.
