Storyline

Hamish, a former getaway car driver, has retired to the country to raise his baby son and look after the house while his wife goes out to work. Everything is going fine until Hamish receives a visit from his old gang who make him an offer he doesn't dare refuse. But who is going to look after the baby? Never mind, take the baby on the job with you!

A darkly comic crime drama

Hamish was a getaway driver till he retired to Suffolk where he now lives with his wife and baby daughter... that is until Tony needs a new driver in a hurry and won't take no for an answer. When Hamish sees a couple of Tony's less than intelligent heavies lurking around he sends his wife away but still refuses to return to drive for 'The Club' Everywhere he goes they go whether it is the local teashop, the pub or the swimming baths; eventually they start to do more than just follow him around; at this point he decides to accept the job... although he has plans to ensure they won't be asking him to drive for them again!

This one off TV drama has plenty of darkly comic moments such as a gangland killer who kills Tony's first driver by making him stand through a car sunroof then driving in such a way that he is catapulted from the top of a multi-storey car park! Other moments are just plain funny... who couldn't laugh at the two heavies swimming in pink and purple swimming caps? There is a good amount of action too including a great scene where Hamish gets on a Land Rover and plays cat and mouse with the heavies in their yellow Capri. The dialogue is sharp without seeming over-scripted; I liked how both Tony and the killer managed to be menacing without raising their voices or saying anything overtly threatening. The cast, which included several well known faces, did a good job; most notably Alfred Molina who played protagonist Hamish and Kenneth Cranham who played Tony.
