This was the last Paramount Pictures film to use the version of the studio logo with the Paramount Communications byline. The studio's next film, "The Brady Bunch Movie", was the first to use the version of the studio logo with the Viacom byline (nearly a year after the studio was sold to Viacom).
After Nadine (1987), director Robert Benton commented that he desperately wanted to work with Kim Basinger again and so he offered her the role of Toby in this film. She was not able to work it into her schedule, though. He has said that one day he will find a way to work with her again.
Paul Newman and Bruce Willis previously appeared in The Verdict (1982). Similarities about both projects is the fact Willis went uncredited on both films (he was an extra in that film); Newman received Oscar nominations as Best Actor in a Leading Role for both films, and both were adapted from novels.
