The feature directorial debut of screenwriter Tommy SwerdlowA Thousand Junkies strikes a nerve and strikes a delicate tonal balance, often making the viewer laugh and cringe from painful identification within a matter of seconds. Boasting a successful career in the ’90s as the writer of a number of beloved family films—including Cool RunningsLittle Giants, and Snow Dogs—Swerdlow was, at the same time, a full-blown heroin addict. And Swerdlow wasn’t alone—his co-stars B… »

2017 Tribeca Film Festival: 23 Can't-Miss Movie Premieres, Talks and Gala Events

17 April 2017 10:05 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Every year, celebrities, filmmakers, journalists and movie fans flock to the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan for the Tribeca Film Festival, an illustrious celebration of film and television that features some of the most exciting projects and panel discussions of any media festival in the country.

Founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2001, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the festival has helped revitalize the city and remind both filmmakers and fans alike of New York City’s valued place in film and TV while becoming a welcoming community for voices and perspectives from all over the world. “It’s also a fabric of our city. So whether or not it’s a film from Israel or Palestine or something for kids, our festival was about community and it still is,” Rosenthal tells Et. “It’s about bringing community together.”

The 2017 festival, which runs April 19-30, continues to expand beyond film and TV with »

Univision Moves to Lure Advertisers More Familiar With English-Language TV Viewers

11 April 2017 7:45 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Viewers of Univision in recent months may have noticed something on the network that had never been there before: commercials for Apple and Amazon.

Keith Turner wants more of them. Univision does business with many of the same sponsors as its main rival, NBCUniversal’s Telemundo, he says, but “all the brands that CBS and NBC have are the ones we are more interested in getting to come here.” The Spanish-language broadcaster has also attracted the likes of PepsiCo’s Gatorade and Coca-Cola’s Powerade for the first time, said Turner, president of advertising sales and marketing at Univision Communications Inc.

Univision is preparing for a new round of wooing advertisers long accustomed to scheduling their commercials on English-language networks, and it is doing so by talking up an audience that watches much of its programming live as it happens and, what’s more, remains very passionate about doing so. Movies to Show My Son: ‘The Sandlot’

27 March 2017 4:01 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Today I begin a new series that combines my fondness for film with the joy I have of being a parent. Like most geek dads or dads in general I am eager to share the things I have a passion for with my son. Growing up I can remember my dad doing the same. As a proud Air Force veteran with a father who made his living working for the Rail Road my dad grew up with his own passions and hobbies. Some of my greatest memories as a child are the times I spent seeing my dad gushing at train museums, getting lost in amazement at air shows, or simply try to gather as much information as possible about World War II. Now as I am closing in on the two year mark of being a dad I am beginning to brainstorm on what movies are must sees for my son. »
