Alternate Versions

The 2003 Platinum Edition release of this movie included an optional version (through seamless branching) with a new song, "Morning Report", originally from the stage show.
The 2003 Platinum Edition release uses the IMAX print, which contains slight differences in animation. For example, characters who had faces that were too small to be seen in the original had faces added to the IMAX print. Also, there were some visual differences in the "I Just Can't Wait to be King" sequence. The ground was different in one shot and the alligators and birds had been changed in at least one shot.
In the original 1994 release, the film opened with the memorial card to Frank Wells, and the original 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo. For the IMAX print and the 2003 Platinum Edition release, it was orange-and-black. For the 2011 Diamond Edition release and 3D re-release, the original 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo was replaced with the current 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo, and the memorial card to Frank Wells was moved to the end of the end credits.
For the 3D re-release the original 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo was replaced with the current 2006 Walt Disney Pictures logo, and the 2007 Walt Disney Animation Studios logo. These changes were also made in the 2011 Diamond Edition release and the 2007 Walt Disney Animation Studios logo was only shown in the 3D re-release.
For the 2011 Diamond Edition release, the rumbling clouds that Simba runs towards as his father's spirit disappears were missing. They are restored and added back in the Walt Disney Signature Collection release.
