Terrible, just terrible.
HORROR_FAN_117 April 2002
How they can milk the classic "Knight Rider" series for this piece of trash is beyond me. The 80's series was a classic even though I do think that David Hasselhoff is an absolutely shambolic actor, which really comes through when he plays two roles in the episodes "Goliath" and "Goliath Returns". If you haven't seen those two episodes yet then you must, they are pure comic genius with Hasselhoff playing Michael Knight's evil twin brother Garth, with a ridiculously massive fake stuck on beard!, classic.

Regardless, it was a good series, and the makers of this movie have just used the title of "Knight Rider" to get a bigger audience. There is no doubt that more people would be interested in watching this film simply because of the title. It essentially hasn't hardly got anything to do with the concept and original idea of Knight Rider, until right at the end, (at which time I was falling in and out of sleep), when they build a car with armour and weapons on it. No K.I.T.T., no talking voice, no turbo boost, no molecular bonded shell & no incredibly sexy Bonnie (Patricia Mcphearson). Although there is one nice girl in it which is basically why I am gave this movie the rating I did, otherwise it would have been 0 or 1.

Here's a thing that the script writers didn't think of. If in the original Knight rider series, if Wilton had Michaels face constructed in Garths image then why is he as well as looking like him in the face, has he got the same afro hair, the same height, the same build??. The only thing different is a massive beard and Garth breathes and overacts more. Just thought I'd throw that one in. Now back to Knight Rider 2010......

Would not recommend this movie to anyone, it is definitely one of the worst movies I have ever seen and just like Jaws 3 and that awful Jaws: The Revenge, it puts the original films to shame.

Dreadful film, Rating 2/10. trash

Absolute Rubbish
billy_195_200016 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was appalling. I expected a better looking car than the one in it, and where on earth was Hasselhoff? What is a knight rider movie without the star? It's like making return of the Jedi without Luke sky walker or simply having the emperor as the baddie and leaving out Darth Vader - it tears a story apart. It should not have "loosley" followed the original series, it should have followed closely and been a better more advanced version, given the time of its release. Apart from some of the music, (which was slow mundane and boring); nevertheless, the movie seemed more like a mid-eighties film rather than a mid-ninety's production. Shame on whoever directed it - and the ridiculous unnecessary innuendo at the end: Hannah's hologram says to Jake in the car, referring to the virtual world. "Three minutes before you flat line in there" Then Jake Mcqueen (why try and make it better by changing the name? - what the heck happened to Michael Knight?) says "Three minutes... That should be enough!" - what is this soft core erotica or something? Last but not least, the arch villain dies of a heart attack, they don't even finish the fight. His machine pumps blood around the body and attempts to keep him alive long enough to design a heart machine that will make him live forever. He dies by his own devices - I get what the director may have been trying to convey, but could it have been any less dramatic and boring, I don't believe that is possible.

Kitt didn't need a sex change.
PatrynXX18 January 2001
Warning: Spoilers
perhaps they already thought Katt. But no everyone up in idiotsville thought this one would fly

(spoiler? not sure but just a warning so I can let my mind wander without worrying about it)

I watched this when it first came out and recorded it for the heck of it later. This is tv gone bizerk. I'd heard about it before it was filmed. Kitt had a sex change. It was beyond that. It's more like First Knight. Take the basic storyline, move it to another show/movie and wallah, idiotsville. Heck the car looks like **** (enter 4 letter word that rhymes with our favourite little voice). Who'd want it? Hell the car in Knight Rider 2000 looked better than this junk heap. And somehow this crystal is supposed to be a human of sorts? You've got to be kidding. Sure it would have been passible for Knight Rider 2000 to be made into a series, but 2010 can be burned into a molten rock. Wasn't this the idiot who's got an amazing heart valve? I'll be the first to knock him out. Being an original Knight Rider fan this was both upsetting and morose. I believe this came out of the Action Pack crap. (the same thing that brought us Hercules..) you can take that to the bank, if it's along side Hercules imagine....... 3/10

This isn't "Knight Rider" at all...
BlazeFox19 October 2005
This 'movie' is rarely discussed or aired on TV. There is a very good reason why, I'll explain.

Aside from the name in the title and a guy driving a car, this movie really has NOTHING at all to do with the 80's TV series 'Knight Rider'that most of us grew up watching. Instead this movie is more like a low budget Mad Max sequel with cyber-punk undertones. I'll try and sum up the movie for you: In the future earth is barren and polluted, there's this guy with a big truck who smuggles people into the clean air domes (makes ya think of Total Recall, eh?) he meets up with this scientist guy who wants to steal his organs using this soul-stealing crystal thing, the immigrant smuggler guy's girlfriend gets her soul trapped in the crystal instead, immigrant smuggler guy then puts the crystal into a car he built from scraps of a Mustang. The scientist villain guy is thwarted, a joke is made about doing some matrix-ish cybersex interface thing and our heroes drive off into the sunset.

The TV movie before 2010; KR2000 was crud but it at least had some relevance to the 80's series, Team Knight Rider was also terrible but still had ties to KITT and The Foundation. KR2010 is crap. Mr. Hasselhoff and Mr. Larson; if you have any sense, don't let 'Knight Rider: The Movie' be like this. Base it around the pilot ep where Michael Long is shot, please... We're tired of made-for-TV garbage. If Dukes of Hazzard can have a decent theatre movie, can't Knight Rider?

Post-Apocalypse Action, little resemblance to the original "Knight Rider" series
DcnBlues26 January 1999
If you think this is going to be an even higher-tech version of the original "Knight Rider" series, um, don't hold your breath. It's still got the "young loner on a crusade" but it's not Hasselhoff, and our hero doesn't even OWN a car until the middle of the movie. Turns out, it's an old, junked-out Ford Mustang instead of the sleek Pontiac Firebird you would expect. There's some mention of an "interface" that looks like a crystalline artichoke (maybe they rescued it from "Cat from Outer Space") that somehow allows the spirit of a young girl to reside in the car. Hrmmm... well, if computers are pretty scarce, I suppose we could go the fantasy-mystical route. But there are better post-apocalypse vehicle films out there -- see "Damnation Alley" or any of the "Mad Max" films if you're into this sort of thing.

This was part of the "Action Pack" series of pilot films, including "TekWar", "Team Knight Rider", and the original episodes of "Hercules". This one didn't measure up, and never got further than a pilot episode.

Appalling production values
Leofwine_draca23 July 2016
When the popular KNIGHT RIDER TV series finished, I guess the producers weren't quite ready to give up the ghost because they produced a couple of follow-on TV movies in the years after. The first at least had Hasslehoff to tie it into the series, whereas KNIGHT RIDER 2010 has absolutely nothing to do with the show or indeed even the spirit of the show.

Sure, there's an armoured car with weapons in a couple of scenes, but that's the only scant connection. The rest of this is set in a post-apocalyptic world, with heavy nods to the MAD MAX films, where an evil organisation is presided over by a disabled scientist and our loner hero must use his wits and his high-powered car to rescue a kidnapped woman. Oh, and there's something about illegal organ donation, too. The acting is wooden beyond belief, the lead actor is simply terrible, and the production values are so appalling as to be non-existent which renders the many action scenes laughable. The one thing this has going for it is a villainous Brion James in typically arresting form, but sadly he can do nothing to save the film itself.

A movie that has nothing to do with Knight Rider, but is entertaining to a point.
agentvangough6 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not what you think it would be. It was four in the morning and i was watching a marathon on the Sci-Fi channel and this movie popped up, and i had to watch it. At the beginning I thought this isn't to bad, but we do we get to see the car. Then the middle, got there and it was not what I expected. Though the movie isn't really a Knight Rider movie, but the action and somewhat of a story line make it a movie that if there is nothing else better on you might as well see it. If you are a Knight Rider fan waiting to see this movie you will know what I mean when you see it. My favorite thing about this movie would have to be basis of the story, it makes a great way to present a film. So if your not doing anything and aren't planning on doing anything, watch and see.

correction to above comment
raptor_prime21 March 2006
Just to clarify the above statement quote"Michael Knight's evil twin brother Garth"

Michael Knight is in no way related to Garth because Michael Knight is an alias created by Garths father(cant remember full name) for Michael Long.

A cop who is nearly killed by a scandal that is outlined in the pilot and as well in later episodes.

I saw the movie as well and i thought it was mildly entertaining although i have to agree that it was overall a bad attempt to milk the TV series.

I cannot belive the nerve of the makers!
lulliclo610 October 2003
This excuse for a film is not worthy of the name Knight Rider. Avoid this at all costs. Anyone wanting to see Knight Rider after Michael Knight should see Knight Rider 2000. Even Team Knight Rider is more entertaining than this turkey! Minus 1 out of 10.

Misleading Title
kjenkins31 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It would doubtless have better ratings if the title were something a bit more honest. People - I mean me - keep expecting that as he goes through the process of creating the ultimate ride to take to victory, that the protagonist will discover the husk of KITT and reinvigorate him. This is not the case. The greatest claim to fame is that it stars Heidi Hudson Leick. The Trivia for this movie notes that it was her "debut" appearance, but if that were true, this project would have had to spend a couple of years on the shelf because she had two credits listed in the IMDb before this one. She is stunning as always and the real heart of the show, as well as the heart of the car in the end - but that IS telling. Besides her, Brion James turns in a B- performance, but just watching him work is a treasure. I give this one 4 stars for those reasons.

Not as bad as other's opinions would have you believe
whacko13 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on the UPN network's "Action Pack" which is where the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena Warrior Princess started out. It was kind of an afternoon movie show and each week they showed a different movie. Some had several 2 hour episodes like Hercules. Other's like Knight Rider 2010 only had one shot.

The movie takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the same vein as Mad Max. A few powerful corporations are still around but a lot of the world is wasteland and decaying cities.

One of the corporations is after a crystal computer chip, which eventually becomes the core of the new K.I.T.T. although the car has little in common with the black Trans Am from the series. The recorded mind of the driver's love interest is stored in the crystal computer chip and does little more than make sassy comments and try to come to terms with her death.

There is another baddie out there with a fance car created from the remains of a stealth bomber. The climax of the movie is a chase through the city while machine guns and bombs fly.

I have over-simplified the plot but it really isn't much more complicated than I have laid out. The T.V. movie would have been more successful had it been given a non-Knight Rider name. Had it been billed as a Mad Max ripp-off it might have been better received.

In the end though, this movie is a lot more entertaining than "Team Knight Rider." Which was truly horrid and reminiscent of the Power Rangers TV Show in terms of some of its visuals.

Not as bad as some believe...
apelinq13 June 2001
Believe it or not, I've watched this KR at least ten more times than KR 2000. It's not because the movie is a masterpiece, but it really does push the envelope on the KR legend and tries to do something interesting with it.

Jake McQueen is a cool character since he's not a pure good guy, quite frankly, the guy was a criminal and ultimately winds up serving justice, not just the law. He is in essence a "young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless and the powerless".

The supporting cast does their jobs well and seeing a pre-Xena Hudson Leick is refreshing. Beach does a good job at being a sheriff who walks the straight line and finds that always doesn't get the job done.

I honestly believe that this movie had great ideas, but should have taken things further. The car should have been built up over the course of the movie rather than only appear in the last half hour or so (a mistake that KR 2000 also made). The post-apocalyptic setting is cool, but the villains should have been fleshed out more. Having them be "cowboy era types" was not a problem, but they should have also been cybernetically augmented, much like their leader. The theme of humans and machines living side by side as opposed to united was interesting as well.

I always regret this show was not turned into at least a mini-series or series of movies like "Tekwar" was. It would have been interesting to see if they advanced the storyline more. Overall, a nice try.

Trading On The Name
mjdaniels-120 December 2006
If you're expecting the hairy chest of David Hasselhoff and the retro cool Pontiac of KITT then don't bother with this movie. Purported to be loosely based on the original series it has no character called Knight, no reference to the Foundation for Law And Government and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Knight Rider. In fact, it's rubbish. A bounty hunter operating outside the law gets caught up in a love triangle with his former girlfriend and her disabled boss. Somehow he turns down a Ferrari, an AC Cobra and a 1950's piece of American automobile history to rebuild an old hot rod car, coating it in bulletproof material and making a computer that can talk. Hence the ability to trade on the Knight Rider brand. Aside from that, it's nothing other than an attempt to keep the name alive until Glen A. Larson finishes writing the script for the new Knight Rider movie, due out in 2008.

The GALACTICA 1980 of KNIGHT RIDER
Phantom120 June 2001
A bad movie? Not really. Knight Rider? Hell no. Not even close. Doing a sequel to a popular series is always a tricky thing but at least some element of the original has to remain intact to make it work. While Knight Rider seemed to be the possible starting point for a new series with new leads BUT with KITT firmly in place the series the potential was there for a new series to work.

2010 removes itself entirely from the original series. The payoff for 2010 would have been our heroes stumbling upon KITT's interface by integrating it (by chance, of course) into an old Trans Am, unearthing the lost legacy of Michael Knight's crusade for justice.

Not as bad as I thought
bull-frog18 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The movie to my surprise was better than I thought. It is still quite mediocre though. You have to watch the movie twice in order to really understand what's going on and still there are parts that puzzle you. I never could fully understand the video game thing and why Zeke needed McQueen to help develop his game. They should have added more scenes. The car driven by McQueen turns out to be a beat up, ugly-assed Mustang while the bad guy drives a bad-ass rocketmobile. That's one of the biggest mistakes of the movie as the car in the regular episodes of KR is the highlight of the show. I don't know what equipment they used to film this movie, but it appeared to have been leftovers from the early 80s. I couldn't believe it was filmed in '94.

As many have already mentioned, it's hard to believe this movie has the title "Knight Rider" in it as there is absolutely no resemblance to the actual TV series. It's Knight Rider in name only. KR 2010 looked more like a pilot intro into an unnamed TV series than a movie.

The several things I liked about KR 2010. The acting was quite decent and they had some good lines. Also I liked the gorgeous looks of Hannah and the last scene. The very last scene was the most memorable part, when McQueen discovers Hannah and together they ride off in the sunset.

Do not confuse crappy knight rider spinoffs
drwho11 May 2005
I saw a comment on this movie that claims it is the one with the cameo appearance by TV's Scotty from Star Trek. This is incorrect. there were two Knight Rider Spin off movies in the 90s. Both were crappy. This one was made in 1994, knight rider 2010, without any people from the original TV show. It take place in a Mad Max style future where this guy either finds or builds a new kit. In many ways, a blatant and poor rip off of mad max... as the guy drives from place to place in this post apocalyptic future. The earlier one was knight rider 2000... from 1991... equally crappy, this one starred David Hasselhoff and yes... had a silly cameo appearance y James Doohan as himself. Avoid both.

A different title helps
anton-7911 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This film was shown here with the title "Metal Force - Apokalypse in L.A.", so I did not expect a Knight Rider film, which was good, because it is not one. Instead this is more like Mad Max.

I watched this film mainly to see what Hudson Leick has done apart from Callisto in Xena. She was very different here, mainly beautiful, and not much else.

The main problem I have with this film is that I don't understand the villains (another parallel with the original Mad Max). What are their goals, and how does killing the senior McQueen and Hannah help them?

I find one parallel with Knight Rider, though: In the pilot of Knight Rider, Michael Knight is almost killed, and then reconstructed with essentially a new body. Here, Hannah's body is killed, and she gets the car as the new body.

innerlite20 April 2005
I have seen the movie Knight Rider 2010 and do agree that it is not the best.in fact,it is extremely poorly produced.However-I think Tug 3 should get his facts right.James Doohan is in Knight Rider 2000,and not Knight Rider 2010.Dont' roll over my leg KITT!In any event the original is a great show which, although very eighties, still carries enough punch to make the grade.Reading about how some of the stunt work was done makes the big budget shows of today a bit naff.some of KN might seem a bit cheesy, but then again, some cheeses have a great flavour.and if super pursuit don't blow your mind just see a black pontiac close up-KITT is timeless.cue purple sunset

surprisingly good
citizenr13 May 2007
Wow. Im not a KITT fan, and this is probably why I really liked this movie.

Camera work was good, humor was funny, cars were fast, good looking and loud. Girls were sexy, acting was professional. Non-CGI special effects were unique and good, they build a lot of cool sets and vehicles. CGI ones sucked ass, but then again this was 1994 and not directed by Cameron or Kubrick.

The biggest surprise comes in a plot, I mean this movie HAS A PLOT, and its good. This is more than you would expect from a B grade SF movie with popular TV series name slapped on it. John Leekley did good with a script.

All in all a good stand alone movie, just don't expect a KITT sequel/prequel/Hasselhoff and you will love it.

Pretty Good
jaak917 June 2007
I don't know about the Knight Rider fans but I liked the movie just for the plot. I bet if they had changed the title to a Mad Max spin off or something, the movie would have probably been more successful. But some would have started thinking: Oh there's a talking car that drives by itself, kinda reminds me of Knight Rider. The reason they gave this movie the title "Knight Rider 2010" is because the earlier scripts actually had more to do with the Knight Rider story and even included KITT but something had caused the format to change and there is a young loner with a talking car.I wish it had spawned miniseries cuz the story was cool. I give this +8 out of 10 cuz there were some weird parts in the film and the enemies seemed kinda weak. When the main character went after the bad guy, there was only little competition standing in his way which he quickly took care of and then already the head of the corporation, who was easy as well, just kicking him in the nuts and that was it. Overall I really liked the film. When you watch a film, watch it for the plot, not because it has relation to some other film...

Wrong title for a great movie
hathiphnath31 August 2005
This is just sad. Most of the people watch it as a KITT film and get really disappointed. Actually, I was really surprised that most people hate this film...

DO NOT watch Knight Rider 2010 AS a KITT movie!! If the title would have been something like Wastelands 2010 or Sand Rider 2010, none (or at least most) of those poisonous KITT-fan comments would NOT have been written.

I myself watched this one a looong time ago, and thus aren't quite sure about the 7 out of 10 value, but I remember enjoying it MUCH more than ANY of the Hasselhoff KITT movies OR series.

So, for Knight Rider fans: BIG NO, for Mad Max fans: BIG YES, there aren't too many post-apocalyptic films out there, but this is one of them.

Knight Rider 2010
beastwarsfan6 June 2004
I watched this movie without linking it to the original TV series. It was long ago since they were on air, and all the kids called the episodes tot "Knight Rider" but "The KITT car!!!". So I rent Knight Rider 2010... This is one of those B-movies, with naive plot, unknown actors and cheap special effects.. But HELL I love this movie! If you expect KITT or Night - you'll be probably disappointed. So take this not as "Knight Rider", take it as a brand new story. If you like post-apocalyptic stuff and old style car battles - watch it! This movie isn't great, but it's cool! If this was a cartoon or animated series it would probably become cult classic.

Milton Knight is spinning in his grave.
mixmates14 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
As part of the lame Action Pack this was an attempt at a series that didn't fly but come on it was much better than Tek Wars. This was when cheap Canadian sitcoms were starting to break into TV. The Crystal bit was smart. The characters were mostly great it just wasn't knight rider. But seriously Team Knight Rider was even worse and both KITT and Michael made appearances - kind of. The villain sucked horribly - god bless the poor guy because I've loved some other stuff he did - Mummy Daddy in amazing stories. The African Canadian playing in this has done other cool stuff like Stargate Atlantis. I think the comparison to Battlestar Galactica 1980 goes too far I watched each and every one of those horrible horrible episodes - Starbuck befriends a cylon and saves the baby dr z. OK jumping the shark in the first season is pretty rare. Low budget is what killed this - people could have stomached the rest if the car hadn't looked so horrible.
